Out of interest are there any long term contact lens wearers with KC ( 20 years or more) without grafts posting to this forum.

James - I don't know how many of them post, but we certainly have lots of members in that category. Though I agree you wouldn't get that impression from recent posts! Maybe some of them will speak up!

James,

As Anne says, I only know of one forum user.

However at the KC confence last year, the AGM this year and in the Midlands Local group metings there are plenty of people who have had lenses for over 20 years and never had a graft.

I was well over 20 years wearing lenses. I only became lens intollderant after 3 decades, and may never have developed lens intollerance.

James,

I was diagnosed with KC 25 years ago when I was pregnant with my eldest son. When I was about 13 my then optician remarked that I would be a good candidate for contact lenses so who knows maybe I was showing signs way back then.

Still wearing them and no grafts needed so far.

Lesley.

Thanks Anne Andrew Gareth & Lesley.

I thought it would be useful to know how many long term contact lens wearers are out there.

I know I have not always treated my lenses or eyes with respect in the early days, which i am sure gives rise to intolerance now. Who out there as used spit on an rgp, or fallen asleep drunk with RGPS in (Student days of course).

Also why recommend piggy backing late in the day when surely it would make sense to soft cover the eye before putting an rgp on it from the start or am I missing the point.

For me the graft decision is very difficult to contemplate due to the long healing time and no possibility of better vision and maybe worse.

James,

I've been wearing contact lenses for 31 years. The first 15 for vanity, short-sightedness and astigmatism, and the rest for short-sightedness and KC.

I wear my lenses every day - typically for 15 hours a day, sometimes more.

I find it difficult to go with out my lenses. My vision with glasses is poor and I find the multiple images annoying - it's not as if KC puts everything into soft focus. That said, on rare occasions when a lens irritates an eye I will take it out in the evening and wear just one for the rest of the day.

Lia
