I've just put up the details of a new study being carried out to determine attitudes to organ donation. One of the goals of the survey is to investigate why comparatively fewer corneas are offered for donation. Another is why fewer members of ethnic minorities donate their organs.

this sounds interesting
i said they can have all my organs but my corneas if i die, for obvious reasons.
. i don't see any religious or moral reasons why you would not donate organs if you belong to an ethinc minority, unless your catholic or something. maybe its just the mentality of form filling, like when you tick "i do not wish to receive...".

John,
Do you ahve a poster you can make available for download.
My employers like the idea of the survey and would like to help promote it toothers within the company. It is felt that a site e-mail is imappropriate due to the sensitive nature organ donation is for some, but a poster for all the notice boards they feel is more appropriate.
Thanks
Gareth

organ donation
Hello All
Before I start I am sorry for my spelling but I can't even spell dyslexia and there is no spell check
Somebody will have to show my how to put "emoticons" in, I fell so hopeless, especialy with no spell check.
Firstly are grafted eyes any use for donation?
I have had one on my left eye two on my right
The second eye used to same cornea, it was removed "oiled and greased" and re stiched,to give a better shape.
It was done at at a provincial hospital (I am not naming as I don't want to be sued ). I think it could have been an experiment. The vision in that eye was not lost but it wasen't as good as before, perhapes others have opinions.
I feel very strongly that organ donations are the choice of the donar, not the relatives of same. I have allways thought you should be able to opt out if you have a problem with donating.
I have a sister with a rare blood group amongst Europeans, but quite common in Asia and she would have big problems if she needed a blood transplant as blood donations from the Indian community are not good. Why this is you would have to ask someone in the forum from the Asian comminity
My Sister now has Lymphatic cancer and she has been told she will never be able to donate in the future
A relative of mine by marridge who is originally an East African Asian, was told she could not donate blood and I assume organs as she came from an area which had endemic Aids, in spite of the fact she left Kenya as a child.
When I am gone they can have any bits of me as I shall be cremated
I think the only real answer is a system of opting out as I think there is only way Organ donation will work.
Let's hope that stem cell research will give us a plentiful amounts of organs including cornea's. I accept that there are some people, who have ethical problems with stem cell research
Thanking everbody for their advice on my problem with miraflow

David,
As far as I know, once you've received donated tissue, you can not donate your own; and certainly they are unlikely to make use of donated tissue as the origin of it is unknown.

p.s. To use the emoticons in your post, just click on the little smilies, and the appropriate code will be inserted into your text.
