Which One Am I Having?

Postby Anne B » Fri 22 Sep 2006 3:35 pm

Hi all,

I got a letter today confirming my graft on the 27th november.
I'm a little confused with the first line, it says
Arrangements have been made for you to have your Deep Anterior Lamellar with Penetrating Corneal Graft on your right eye!!

Can you have both?

I apoligise now if i am being a little think :D

Thanks Anne

Anne,

You are not being thick, the hospital are covering themselves.

Basically they will try a Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty (DALK). Depending on the extent of KC and any deep scaring which may affect the epitheliem then it will turn in to a Penatrating Keratoplasty (PK).

They other way a DALK can turn into a PK is if there are problems separating the outer two layers of your cornea from the epithelium.

Hope this makes sense, but there are probably loads of people who visit this site and aske the same question but are too worried to ask.

I think it is a DALK with the indication that it might need to be a penetrating one if it can't be preformed due to scarring etc. This is what they tell everyone who is going in for a DALK just in case a full thickness one needs to be done instead.

Wishing you all the best!

GB and Sweet are right

but I'm not surprised you were confused. Just when you think you've got a handle on all this , the hospital bowls you a short ball and confuddles you again.

Just their way of letting you know that they think they are more clever than you.

Don't say you're one of those people with only one right eye!

Hope it goes well for you, which ever

If it is possible to have two left feet, why not two right eyes?
