Best of luck for the op Andrew! Don't be (too) scared!

I think the thing that most scared me was when the theatre nurse said to me. "Oh, you're wearing glasses!", she then proceeded to give them to the ward nurse, as they have a tendency to go missing when not on a patient's face. And they could hardly do that!

One of my first coherent sentences after waking up was "where did Joan put my glasses?"

:D

After my first graft the recovery room staff had given me the injection of anti anesthetic and put on my apnoea mask so that the CPAP machine I had taken to the hospital could keep me breathing.

The problem was that the nurse had put the CPAP onto full pressure. This is fine when I am asleep, but like most apnoea sufferers I tend to fight the mask while I am awake.

I reached out to hit the "ramp" button. The recovery room nurse told me not to touch the machine and that all would be well. I kept trying to hit the ramp but she kept trying to stop me. In the end one of the recovery room staff thought to ask what I was trying to do.

"Reduce the pressure. It's too high".

"Oh", she said, "how do you do that?"

I showed her. The pressure subsided and all was well.

I know that joke. Those who recognise the punchline can smile at the joke. Those who do not cannot accuse Matthew of corrupting them.

Andrew :)
