Allof a sudden this thread has taken off.
Thanks guys for everything.
The birthday is my 23rd Birthday. Im a young un.
I think regardless of what he says, I will make some appearance next week.
I am going in tomorrow, the secretary of the consultant called me today from her home strange enjough, I know.
She said the cornea is on its way over from Denver in the states at the moment.

I am curious, everyone here is saying I should be wearing dark glasses. Would I not be wearing a patch over my eye, no??
Please advise as I am going in in the morning.
I will keep ye posted once I return on wednesday.

Thanks for the best wishes

I think I just had a patch for the first night after surgery. I wore dark glasses for a while and an eyeshield for protection at night.

You can get clear eye shields too that just give protection.

We only mention dark glasses as most of us who have been through this ended up being light sensitive for the first week or so post graft.

After week I had no further light sensitivity. Only recently nearly 20 years post graft that I have had to go back to lenses that I started getting light sensitive howver since using lubrictaing eye drops the light sensitivity is much reduced.

What does a clear eye shield look like, is it a lens that goes into your eye or is it a patch.

One of the most important things I never asked, will it hurt like hell after the op or is it not that bad???

In my case pain was much less than expected, more discomfort than anything. I also felt 'shabby' for a few days, probably due to the anaesthetic.
I can remember how apprehensive I was pre-op. Try not to worry, let the professionals do their job, make the most of the rest, it will be over in no time.
Keep us posted.

The standard clear eye shield is made of a circle of thick, clear plastic, perforated to allow air to the eye.

The circle has a protrusion, and you tape it to your face (I kid you not) so that the bump is over the bridge of your nose.

The advice is usually to wear the shield at night or if there is a possibility of being poked in the eye - on a packed train or around children, basically. You can usually wear the shield under dark glasses, as you're very likely to want it to be as dark as possible for much of the time.

Please bear in mind the drug regime you're on though. As Andrew said, you could find yourself being tied to the fridge for a couple of weeks.

It's not worth risking the graft (which should last many years) for just one day of fun.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't go, but that you need to keep an open mind, and make your decision post-graft depending on the drug regime and how you feel.

All the best, and please let us know how you get on.
John
