I must admit I didn't see any of the high lights from your game last night.

What I did see was something so disgraceful that I still cannot believe it. The tackle on Mendes from Thatcher was nothing short of GBH. He didn't go for the ball, he went for the man in an horrendous way.

Each time I see the replay it gets worse. You can see that he is not looking at the ball but at Mendes, and almost veres (sp?) towards him as he is running. And to make it worse he doesn't even look at Mendes who is laying unconcious on the floor, and doesn't go to check he is alright. Last I heard he was still in hospital and may have a broken cheekbone. Thatcher deserves to be thrown out of the game for a challenge like that.

I do agree that the fiasco around Wembley is getting beyond a joke. Who knows when it will be finished.

And your honesty about your team is to be applauded...obviously the thought of flying is getting too much!

Thatcher is a known thug.

How did he get away with a yellow?

Nowadays it appears to be normal for players to jump with elbows flailing. It is time referees clamped down heavily on this. I think players should no longer get the benefit of the doubt because in nearly all cases I believe it is deliberate.

It happened last night on several occasions. The intention may not necessarily be to injure rather than to discourage an opponent from defending properly. This needs to be addressed. Anyway ta ta for now.

Don't mention Chelsea, that's my mother-in-law's team. I love her dearly but she's awfully smug about them!

The only highlights I managed to see were Middleboroughs two goals. Unfortunately I don't get to see much footie if hubby's home, he can't stand it!

Sandi, as for songs,

Nice one Cyril, nice one son, nice one Cyril, let's 'ave another one.

I realise this dates me rather a lot but the names can be changed to suit.

Michael, enjoy Dublin. I had never been then my son went and got a job over there so now I have a reason to go. It's a nice city with friendly people and smoke free pubs oh and the black wet stuff's not too bad either!

I like football but my wife LOVES it! My problem is that I love playing sport more than watching it. I used to play rugby at a decent level, every saturday without fail; I was passionate about it. But I still couldn't sit and watch a whole match, I am still the same, so I find it difficult to even watch the World Cup. I like to dip in and out; listen on the radio whilst doing something else, watch the highlights etc. My wife will watch football, cricket, tennis, snooker...etc But its not a problem, highlights are usually a good compromise, or Ginny watches the football while I read but listen.

how refreshing to find women that love footy too!

Mind you I don't get to see much football watching the team that I support....Port Vale!

Mind you we're sitting pretty at the top of the league right now!

Hi Lesley,

I know of Cyril Knowles, as every good Spurs supporter should, but never saw him play.

I went out with someone once who didn't like footie, so that relationship was doomed from the start! He couldn't cope with my need to be in on a Saturday night for Match of the Day.

Thankfully my hubby is worse than me for football.....so we are well suited. Our youngest (who is now 17) is obsessed with the game and when he 3 years old he woke us early one Sunday morning to discuss the variations in the shapes of the goals at the grounds of top flight clubs!!!! Thats when you know you have a budding John Motson on your hands!

COYS!!!

Hi Matthew,

Who does Ginny support?

I find it hard to watch cricket....it is too slow for me! :)

But I do enjoy tennis and sometimes snooker.

Hello Emma,

Welcome! :D

Good to hear of another female footie fan. I will keep an eye on Port Vale to see how they do....does Robbie Williams support PV?
