New Season

Postby Sandi M » Sun 06 Aug 2006 10:48 am

With the start of the football season here for all the Championship, and Leagues 1 and 2 supporters, and with the premiership only a few weeks away, what are your predictions for title contenders etc.

As a Spurs fan I am really looking forward to the coming season. We have looked very strong in our pre-season games and with the signings of Berbatov (who turned down Man U to sign for us) and Zokora (turning down that other team beginning with A :P ), Jol is strengthening an already very good squad. I still think Chelsea will dominate but this is the best Spurs team I have seen for a while and I think we will give West London a run for their money. :o COYS!!!! :o

Hi Sandi

I know how hard it must be for you to say the word Arsenal.

I have several friends who are Spurs fans and last year was the first time for many years I could get them to talk to me about football.

Yes, I think Spurs will be a force to be reckoned with. My beloved Gooners are possibly a little in disarray and I think they are looking at a third or fourth place finish; possibly even fifth.

I really can't see anyone finishing ahead of Chelsea though.

Hi Michael,

Have you been to the new ground yet? I would be devastated if Spurs moved from WHL.....I know we need to increase capacity and this can't be achieved at the current site, but it would break my heart if they relocated.

We had a nightmare last week as we went up for the friendly against Inter Milan and Seven Sisters tube was closed so a lot of the 36 thousand fans all tried to get on at WHL overground. My husband and I, along with our son decided to get a bus from down the highroad to Waterloo,it took an hour but was quicker than waiting. I am hoping they will have that sorted by next week as I am going to the Real Socieded friendly at the Lane.

I do think tho' that we will finish above you this season......I was gutted that you pipped us on the last day....that was sooooo cruel. :(

It will be interesting to see what happens with Defoe this season. Berbatov has already shown that he is going to be hard to leave out, and Keane looks unstoppable.

I am listening to TalkSport as I type and they are asking people to ring if they think Campbell  would be welcomed back at Spurs.......I for one can never forgive him for what he did. I can't imagine Jol wanting him anyway as he is not the player he was. Some are saying they would return their Season tickets if he returned to the Lane......I think I would, if I could afford one!

COYS!!!!!

I think this season Man U will def fight harder than ever. The team and its fighting spirit is immense and its been too many seasons where they THOUGHT theyd chase Chelsea but now they want it......I dont think Chelsea will have it easy as they think they will....

I am not sure you are right Jay. Time will tell.

Sandi, i haven't yet been to the new stadium but my uncle was most impessed. He was less than pleased with the behaviour of the police at the ground though who were most rude to fans who asked civil questions.

I am worried about congestion at Arsenal station as I believe Holloway is closed.

I have an idea. Why don't Tottenam build a new stadium in South London!

There have been a limited number of transfers between Tottenhan and us but none ever caused such a stir. The hatred seems to have increased in proportion with Arsenal's success in recent years.

Campbell was a disaster last year and cost us 3 or 4 matches. I think he must have had a personal problem or something and I think he left because he was too embarrassed to face his team mates.

He seems to have also lost his pace. My advice to Tottenham is steer well clear.

I don't hate Tottenham and will support them against foreign opposition in Europe. I think I am in the minority on that front

Hi Jay,

I still think Chelsea are too strong...even for Man Utd. I couldn't believe it when Carrick got injured......I have read he will miss the start of the season and maybe about 3 to 4 weeks.

How did you feel about Van Nist going?

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Michael...........  We all know who should have 'gone back' to South London!

I think the problem with Campbell stemmed as much from the fact that he went on a free, as well as the fact that he went to you. I also think that there was some personal problem that affected his game.
I can't imagine, in all honesty, that Spurs would consider going in for him, he would have nothing to offer us. Last I heard Pompey were looking at him.

You certainly are in the minority regarding supporting us in Europe, maybe you really want to be a Lillywhite deep in your heart!
I must say I can never support your team regardless of who they are playing.....I am actually wearing a t-shirt at the mo that says 'Never Red' :)

I will also be interested this sesaon to see how Reading get on as they are not too far from me and I know a few Royal fans (no, I don't mean Charles and Camilla!!).......I have been to the ground a few times, and it is quite impressive......a bit of a bottle neck getting in and out but otherwise OK.

I guess as Arsenal have been so much better than Tottenham for so many years i think of them being as being totally insignificant and and no competition to us. Therefore i don't hate them. Man U and Chelsea? HATE HATE HATE!!!!

I may start to hate Tottenham this year though; time will tell.

I suspect we will have a few "friendly" disagreements over the next 9 months or so!

Totally insignificant!!!!!!!!! :D

I do think I will enjoy this season more than past years......I am hoping that I may even have some long finger nails come next May. :) I get so nervous watching Spurs play and end up biting them, sometimes from sheer frustration.....normally when we have been cruising and 2 - 0 up at half time and then sit back in the second half and let in 3 or 4 goals!!

I am quite indifferent regarding Man U and Chelsea.....but this may change! :)

I am looking forward to our 'friendly' disagreements :D over the coming months.

Hi Sandi

I don't want Micheal to feel like we are ganging up on him but we think Spurs a Great in our house too.
I nearly asked my husband if he would ever support Arsenal, then i realised the children were still up (language may of been a bit ripe)
My husband has got his Spurs membership and i think my eight year old will be off to her first match soon!

COME ON YOU SPURS!! (don't know how to make it blue  )

Hi Anne,

Great to hear from a fellow Lillywhite!

I think you were very wise not to ask your hubby if he would support that team..........I am sure you value your marriage too much!

There are 3 Spurs supporters in our house, myself, hubby and our youngest son. The funny thing is we called our eldest son Glenn after the great Mr Hoddle, but he decided when he was younger he wanted to support Liverpool! Oh well, you can't win them all!

We are all members as well. We spent ages trying to work out what the metal cockerel was in our membership packs, it was only when someone posted a message on the Spurs forum to say they had rung the club and were told it was a keyring that we realised.

Here's to a fab season.

COYS!!
