There is a massage place in Boots the Chemist near where we have a flat in Glasgow. I hve never used it, but do I take it from Jay that there is a reason to avoid such places?
When I worked in a university the women used to picket a massage place close to the campus. They shouted slogans like "stop the exploitation of women". On one occasion the proprietor seems to have asked two of his security stewards to step outside and invite the women to leave his doorstep.
They did, but were unwise enough to step from the door into the midst of this group of women rugby players. They closed ranks behind them, cutting off their access to the door. Two large but rathr battered young men eventually went back inside to tell their boss that the women did not choose to leave the doorstep.

I'm going to pretend I understand. The Boots Massage place is okay, but others might not be.
I remembver an episode of Friends in which Pheobe's little brother thought his sister (the masseuse) must be offering more intimate services than a back and shoulder rub. I guess this is the sort of thing you mean.
The problem is that you really have no way of knowing whether I am being disingenuously other worldly, or whether I really am completely clueless.

Sweet I havn't logged on for a while, really sorry you've been suffering.
It could well be tendon/nerves, it's amazing how much they can cause. My hip went into spasm recently and my sciatic nerve is tweaked. I couldn't bend, sitting was excruciating and I was limping.
I'm slowly recovering, two things I find helpful;
The school of osteopathy in swiss cottage, it's very subsidised and they are great at traction, manipulation, though don't have enough time to do enough deep tissue work.
Deep tissue work should only be carried out by those who really know what they're doing. The walk-in back rub place in Neals Yard Covent Garden is very good. They also offer the one 1 full body treatment and they are all very qualified.
Really hope they get to the bottom of this so your fears can be alleviated, take great care

Seems all us regulars are in the wars, Sweet poorly back, Louise with pooor lower back/bum and me with a dodgy shoulder.
My problem is two days on the trot have forgotten to take my pain killers to work. Put a strip in my bag now to leave at work so hopefully my shoulder pain will go and it will be easier to get my lens in and out.
Are you going to tell us what lead to your trapped nerve?
Sweet fell down the stairs and I was in a car accident three weeks ago.
Come on Louise, whats your excuse?
Snogging one two many blokes for your hayfever?

I bloody wish Gareth!
No it's nothing dramatic, I'm usually physically very active with dancing but have been immobile for 3 months combined with considerable muscle tension. Sitting in front of the PC for hours typing without a break didn't help and so the leg/hip had a tantrum. I've never had the hip/nerve thing before. Boy it hurts when they put their elbow in your a**e! Flying lessons for me...

It's not dodgy! Pressing the elbow into an area using their body weight is a standard deep tissue intervention, but it does hurt a lot. They apply the pressure for a minute until the muscle flicks out of spasm.
Poor Andrew, he's a highly respectable man!

Hi everyone. Went to see my GP this morning to get my blood and x-ray results, not very good news at all
The x-rays are fine so he isn't sure what this numbness is all about and is referring me to see someone in neuro. My blood results were all out of range showing high levels of lactic acid, anaemia with a Hb of 7 and severe dehydration.
Thinking i need to really rest and be good to myself for a while.
Thinking of you all and hi to everyone new, i just haven't had a chance to drop in.
Sweet X x X
