Bridget and Andrew,
Your words elequently express everything that needed to be put across earlier.
I just wish I was not aflicted with dyslexia, although through speach I can express my self, putting that in writting on a pc so you understand it is muc harder.
Basically if I write what I say out loud the letters in the words are all over the place that the text is nonsence to orther readers.

Thank you for your generous words.
As to dyslexia, you do very well!
I spend quite a lot of my time working with people who are experiencing some sexual problem or another and am quite comfortable both with the vocabulary and the subject matter.
I have been thinking about the possible origin of the prejudice that masturbation damages one's sight, and think that it has most likely arisen from the rather obvious fact that many people start needing to wear glasses in adolescence.
Interestingly auto-sexuality was not a problem that exercised medical writers much before the 18th Century, and the bible is entirely silent on auto sexual stimulation.

Andrew,
From the more recent posts I would think Reality would find them more useful than some of the earlier ones.
As the original one degenerated wher John felt it needed to be locked, I was PM'ing Reality to understand why the post was made to see if the question could be answerd and how best to put any concerns regarding this matter to rest.
Reality seems happy now from my lat correspondance and is trying to adress further issues which will also aid the treatment of their KC and return to be a member of the community rather than the isolation that person is in now.
Thanks for your comments on dyslexi, but from most of my posts you will see I try and stick to simple words. Other instances I have a very understanding wife who will type while I dictate a response.

Some very interesting responses here thanks guys!
I dont know when it was that I became convinced that masterbating was causing my KC, I am not religious and dont believe in the old wives tale although I do wonder how that started? I have been diagnosed with KC for 4 years now and my vision is getting progressively worse, I notice that my vision becomes more distorted and my eyes sting after I masterbate (I dont find this word embarassing at all to be honest, 95% of blokes do it) Gareth mentioned that it could be to do with blood pressure levels and it could be although I dont get the distorted vision and irritation when exercising I get after masterbating?
Maybe I have just become paranoid about it and convinced myself that it is connected? I'm an honest bloke so when I eventually get to see an eye specialist I will raise my concern with him/her. Maybe they will laugh it off like some people have done on here. I dont care though if its on my mind I dont see why I shouldn't raise it.
Thanks guys.
p.s - I still masterbate at least twice a week by the way, its one extremely hard habit to break.

My problem with posting is that my mind works more quickly than my fingers! I get all tied up and end up with incoherent nonsense, so often return to edit and re-edit posts until they are more or less right.
Sometimes I compose in a local application, spell check and then cut and paste.
I am glad that you were in private contact with reality. I hope he is well and look forward to seeing his posts in future.

You know.. I am reminded here of a patient I saw who was convinced she had caused her vision to deteriorate through drinking. At first I thought she meant some kind of home made alcohol (which can cause retinal damage if contaminated ) or Meths but it became clear she meant she had drunk half a pint of beer only (she didnt normally drink at all) and thought this had caused her vision to deteriorate.
She was so convinced of this she attempted suicide as she thought she had caused herself to go blind and it was only after careful investigation I found her blurring was caused by the concoction of drugs she was taking for depression. I could actually reverse the effects by instilling cycloplegic drops (which stop the lens focussing).
This taught me that it is frighteningly easy to convince yourself of cause and effect of almost anything!!

Its good that a mature discussion has been allowed to continue here (well done to those who allowed this to happen)
I think no ones worry/concern is more valid or greater than someone elses, as who is the judge of this?
A worry is a worry... a concern is very much a concern to the person involved... it must be validated.
It is only some "chat" on a forum... what's the problem with that?
The person with the worry/concern must be allowed to leave here feeling better about themselfs after airing their worry and concerns than when they come. And so other members will feel better about themself airing things which is close to their hearts ect (which may not be of interest to someone else ect ect).
For example, some people are looking for a pillow ...others a way out of their KC...
Anyway, i think there are persons under the age of puberty with KC ...so where does sex come in to that?
Also i think anyone researching the sex and KC link may want to visit a sex forum (there must be one!) on the reverse side to find out more and to see if there is a community of kcers there. (which i personally doubt)
Just my two pennies

Yes this discussion has worked out better. I think we took it as a bad post because Reality was a new poster who only wanted to talk about something which appeared as a porn discussion and was adamant that we listen to him!!
Spam posts and sex links are everywhere online you only need to look in your bulk box on email to see that. Am hoping that Reality has now gone away with some things to talk about and that he will come back with more KC discussions that aren't all sex related!

Reading through the boards it becomes obvious that there are many theories, based on both myth and experience, as to what causes KC or makes the symptoms worse: drinking alcohol, not drinking enough water, sunlight, air con, genetics, hormones, smoking, kidney trouble, sex, autism, the list goes on.
In the absence of any known cause we are free to speculate. I myself am firmly in the "bad luck" camp, mostly because I hate the thought that I did this to myself. My mother, on the other hand, is clearly allied to the "blame the parents" lobby. She keeps looking for ways for this to be her fault - either something she did in pregnancy or something she allowed to happen in my early childhood!
This is partly why I think it would be so wonderful if a cause could be found - of course a cure or prevention for others would be very important, but I also think it would help if we could just understand what was happening to us. Especially when newly diagnosed or during episodes of rapid detereriation, it can be very frightening and the temptation to jump to quick conclusions all to human.

P.S. I am not dyslexic - I just can't spell or type - add in can't quite see what I am doing and general thought disorder and it is a wonder any sense can be made of my posts at all!
