Having just thought about it, I was involved in the RTA when I was 16/17 which would have been 1990's. Cant remember to much about the accident although know it was my own fault.
It is strange to think that the may be a trigger to KC, but then again coincidences sounds more plausable.

As with other co-factors it is clear that a head inury is neither a necessary nor a sufficient cause of KC.
It can be shown not to be necessary if you can identify even one person with KC who has never suffered a head injury.
It can be shown not to be sufficient if you can find even a single person who has had a head injury but who does not hve KC.
That leaves us with another possible co-factor that has not been well researched. I'd be interested to see any epidemiology that uses head injuries as a variable, but I have never seen any.

Thanks everyone given me some more food for thought. There appears to be quite a few here who have had a head injury in the past. Putting my ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder) head on here I believe that you can turn up the heat with ASD in many different ways. The accident certainly had a HUGE impact on David's levels of autism/ Other things impact to - so maybe if the KC is already there, in the early stages or waiting to happen, a head injury could activate the KC or speed up the progression? David still has the lump on the right side of his head, some 8 years after the accident, as a result of being hit by the car.
I don't think the KC had anything to do with the accident but I do think his undiagnosed ASD did. David has big problems with spacial awareness. The Right eye is the one where the KC is running rampant at the moment. It does make you wonder. I don't seek cures for the ASD or the KC but as my sign off says the 'Key to Understanding is Awareness' and I am on a mission to understand and to try and piece all of the bits of the jig-saw together.
thanks
Carole

Carol, I think Davids bump he still has makes up for the dent I still have in my head after a car accident.
I got hit by a car at speed on the wrong side of the road while I was driving one weekend. The impact was enough to buckle the roll cage on my rally car. The Police cinfirmed I managed to stop my car, but I still got hit at over 100 mph! The steering wheel was pushed into my head and pushed the brow ridge above my left eye back, broke all my ribs, broke the lower vertebrae in my back, dislocated both wrists, destroyed 1 knee cap, damaged the other!
Still the accident was more survivable than a pedestrian being hit by a car travelling at 35 mph!

Phew Gareth!! That was certainly a shake up!
Carole, there is actually quite a bit of evidence out there that KC is genetic but does not fully show up in all individuals - this is called incomplete "penetrance" of a genetic factor. Trauma may or may not have anything to do with it.. it is simply too early to tell yet.
As for the spatial awareness, this may in fact be partly due to the KC as if his acuity is significantly down in one eye, his depth perception will be markedly reduced which will have a knock on effect on spatial awareness.
Humans need both eyes working to a reasonably equal level of vision in order to perceive objects in 3 dimensions.

BBQ's I always thought was where you women put your feet up and watched the bloke incinerate an inocent piece of meat
The only reaon I can post today is down to the fact I was in a strengthend rally car, otherwise I would be looking down from above or up from below depending on where I went.
Personnally I think it was a combination of him upstairs and him down below not wanting me
Brain scans still show the damage! The left knee cap is sort of glued together and the lower vertibrae are held together with wire!
What's still left is all me apart from a good portion of the corneas which are from two other people!
My wife has reminded me that the rest of my knee joint is still in a jar up in the loft! Now that would be an interesting thing to bring to the next social
