New site design

Postby John Smith » Tue 18 Apr 2006 12:48 am

Hello,

Hopefully, many of you will have now noticed the new design of the main web site. If not, please go and have a play - just click on "Home Page" above. If it is underlined, or changes colour, you can click on it.

Please let me know if I've messed anything up, or if you can think of anything that could be included.

I'd like to acknowledge the fantastic help I received from both Knight (who patiently provided several iterations of the new graphics) and Sweet (who helped loads in yesterday's marathon editing session). Thanks to both of you

To continue the theme of the community-built website (we are, after all a self-help group) we already have the FAQ forum to collect ideas for the future FAQ pages on the revamped site.

I'd also welcome contributions from members who can write clearly on the treatment options outlined here. I'd like a friendly, easy-to-read style of writing, and ideally less than a screen of text on each. We don't intend to publish anything more on this page though until it is complete and has been professionally checked - as this is likely to be a very important page for newcomers, and we don't want to give any misleading, contradictory or wrong information.

Any comments or submissions then please to me at webmaster@keratoconus-group.org.uk.

Thanks,

Oh thank goodness for that, i thought we were never going to make it!!!! Twelve hours later and at four in the morning i just couldn't take it anymore with all the reminders of CAPITAL letters and having to DELETE all of your commas and hyphens in titles!! LOL!! I was really going insane!! LOL!!!   Hehe!

No seriously, i did enjoy it and was glad to help as the site did need a new younger image. I think it looks ten times better now and much more colourful! Knight your images are really good and i love the ambulance one!!

Just wanting to add a few things here following from what John said. A few members have given their stories and we added them to the Members section, but since then some have written about their graft experiences etc in the forums. If you would like those to be added as well then please email John! Hehe he won't mind, it gives him something to do!!! LOL!! Hey quit poking me! 8)

Also dare i say it but some might have noticed that the chat room has disappeared! It is still on the site map though but as it wasn't really used we weren't sure about putting one back. I know that John will kill me for adding it here. But as we can't take the risk of a food fight breaking out again in the Chit Chat forum i think it would be good to put it back, and John you do know that we do have a perfect space for it!! So please let us know your thoughts on it.

Also we put the committee members details on the site and i know that they are thinking about the minutes and maybe adding conference info as well. There is a link there to email Anne.

Hopefully we didn't miss anything but please say if we did, we won't bite you. Or at least not too hard anyway! We did take everything from the last home page so hopefully it should be ok. Also while John is coding things and until the coloured boxes get linked there is more info on them then just the three links on each box. So please click on the diamond pic to find the sub page with all the links for that section, and i'm told that we will have some back buttons soon as well!! Have fun!

I really like the new layout - great stuff. Really appreciate all the work you've put in - you are stars!

Very minor thing... Can I request that a couple of apostrophes be added in the "Members' voices" section - to say "members' voices" and "members' stories" rather than without the apostrophes as they are at the moment?

I'm sorry, I have this unfortunate affliction whereby grammar errors jump out of a page and shout at me begging to be changed, I can't help it *runs away to hide*

LMAO!!! I kinda thought that someone would come here and say EXACTLY what John was, as he pleaded with me to put them in as well!!! I guess i'm from the younger school where grammar in web site titles looks messy so we don't add them as we just assume they are there!!! LOL!!

Ok John ... as it has been noticed i'll let you change it back!

Thanks for your opinions and it is ok ,,, Sweet X x X

Site definately looks alot better and easier to read in my opinion.

I think all we need to do now is create sub groups within the forum so that everything doesnt get posted within the General Discussion......and we are nearly there!

Hhmm now there is a thought to enable us to post in the right places! We did condense the writing descriptions under the forum names as it was starting to take over so that is something worth thinking about. 8)

Yay, I can have my apostrophes :D Thank you! I think I might have to join the Apostrophe Protection Society... Grammar in websites makes them look even more professional, IMO.

Hhmm will think on that one! LOL!!

I did tell John though that my mother wouldn't be happy with me for leaving them out either as i was brought up with regular spelling tests and essay writing with good grammar! LOL! Maybe now that she isn't around i'm being stubborn and doing my own thing!

But it's ok, John has said that he WILL put them back!!

I really like the new design. The icons look like little scout badges!

Good work John

indeed...theres absolutely loads that can be done with this site....but I think John has his hands full as it is.......and I think alot of the changes that were done were in the pipeline since last year....which just goes to show the extent of work required on his part?!?
