OK, maybe weird but ...
On TV about 10mins ago, I laughed my bee-hind off with the ad for the F1 mag. In a pit stop, driver gets out and they spin him in that little square ... cracked me up, trivial I know but still...
Commercials these days, are so inventive, and I've seen a few that made an impression, almost like short vignettes . One of the most rememberable started off with a child all broke up beside a tree from a hit 'n' run then it reverse plays, she slides across the road ... gave me the shivers ... makes you think, the point of course.

I agree about the sheer inventiveness of British Commercials, but I'm afraid that in other parts of the world the television commercial is not so imaginative or thought provoking.
My favourite commercials are the ones where you are left wondering what it was that they had been advertizing.
Actually there are two classic television commercials that stand out as having been extremely successful television, but having not sold too muchproduct.
One was in the old days of cigarette advertizing, a distant but not fond memory. It featured a solitary man, you know the kind of thing, white trench coat, brooding good looks. He lit a cigarette and the caption was "don't be alone out there, have a ...(brand name) "
The actor got all sorts of fan mail, women seemed to imagine themselves as the individual's rescue from solitude and isolation. He got proposals of marriage. but the association with the cigarette and social isolation managed to REDUCE the sales of that particular brand. It disappeared!
The other was for a new brand of Lager. I think it was called "Charger". this ad led to an overall increase in lager sales, but not of sales for the brand. it also disappeared.

one of my old favourites was the kia-ora drink advert where it had a boy walking along saying the drink was only for him and his dog - he had a line of crows following him carrying pianos and things singing "i'll be your dog".
it didn't make me run out and buy the drink but i was a bit sad in the fact that i used to record it and if i felt fed up for any reason i'd replay it other and other, just made me laugh...silly i know sneaks back in dark corner

Hehe oh Knight that is where you are!! LOL!! We did mention you amongst the food fight last night wondering where you had gone!! Hehe maybe we just wanted to splatt you as well!!! 
The adverts about smoking have caused quite a stir with smokers at the hospital. Now when we ask about past history and if they smoke we get a few who say how hard it is to watch those adverts, especially the one with the gentleman on oxygen saying that he was dying but going to meet his daughter. It ended with the advert saying that he died two weeks later and never got to see his daughter at all. Sad.
I love the funny adverts that make me laugh, doesn't really matter what they are advertising just the humour involved is dam right funny!! The creature comfort ads are cute! They make me laugh every time
