I have an appointment with my ophthalmologist on Thursday. He will review the progress of my 28 month old graft, and we will talk about the new graft he has planned for eye #2.

I need to ask him about DALK, is it suitable, what is the down side and what the advantage of this sort of surgery. (I shall compare what he says with the information I have gleaned from the helpful postings on the forum).

I am also going to ask him about the stubborn suture that is still in place in my graft-eye. I am pretty sure that this is what is causing my vision to change every six to eight weeks.

I have a little list of questions, all written down and will make sure that we go through them before i leave the consulting room.

Sounds good Andrew!

How many sutures have you got left in the grafted eye?....thing that I have noticed with sutures in the eye is that the vision change can be excessive depending on how hydrated the cornea is......the less hydrated the more pull across the surface area of the grafted tissue......its a funni old game!

Time at which eye #2 is grafted may be a good time to pull out that stubborn suture.

Just the one suture left. I was aware of him tugging at it when he took out rhe rest of the last eight. It wasn't painful, but looked a bit scary.

I hope that, when he has me comotose, he will just tweek it out. Back into the wait for a donor. Not my favourite part of the process.

Couldn't agree more.

Yet every day I look across the river and give thanks for the gift that makes it possible for me to see the magnificence of Creation (even today when it is misty, the light plays through the mist making it change constantly).

Did you know that if you look carefully at mist as opposed to trying to see through it, the grey colour becomes a kalaedoscope of colour?

Andrew wishing you the best of luck here, hoping it all goes well! Hope that you get that stubborn suture removed at the same time, gee i wish mine would do the same and stay in place!!!

A DALK is a good idea though you consent to it maybe being a full thickness if you get there and it can't be done. From what i've gathered though recovery is slower but it will be worth it and rejection risks are far lower!

Yes Andrew, the very best of luck for your appointment.

You may find though, as I did, that your existing consultant doesn't perform DALK surgery, and that you'll need another consultant for eye no. 2!
