Dipesh

Why dont you go get over refracted at local optician?...only thing you need to be aware of is the lens change.....thats what I did from the 3 week post graft. I told my consultant this is what I was going to do and he just pointed out the changes and the cost for lens changes

Ive since had to change my glasses lens 3 times and at £30 a lens (bog standard and nothing flashy) its worth its weight in gold!...right now thats how Im typing this message...with my glasses at a definite 6/12 and 3 letters on the 6/9.

So I would suspect you would have costs for

1) refraction at optician (£20 max)
2) lens chance in glasses (mine is £30 each time)
3) frame costs ( i got basic £50 frames)

worth considering I think......but again Im not medically qualified blah blah blah

With regards to the IOP, would assume this was caused by the new drops? I dont actually know of any other remedies apart from NOT getting stressed and angry......as that does aid in IOP when you already have an elevated value.....

Hi all,

First happy New Year to you all.

Not really been posting much, but kept a keen eye on things (no pun intended).

Not much to report on my progress, next appt is in March and still on Rimexolone and Betagan twice a day and Xalatan once at night. As for the eye things are going OK, I feel the pressure is under control, the looks normal and not red, although after the chundering experience in had in Egypt it made me worry.

Will update you all after my next appointment.

Take care

Glad to hear things are going ok Dipesh and long may that continue.

As I will be having a graft at some time I do find following the progress of others is one of the most beneficial aspects of this site.

It really does help prepare one for what they may face and without question is so much more informative than anything I could read on the subject.

So please keep us all to date and all the best for 2006.

Hi all,

Since my last post in January, I thought Id share my progress with all.

The graft nearly a year gone (4th April 05) is healing well, I still have the 16 single stitches in the grafted eye. The consultant said they’d be looking to remove some stitches on or round my next visit.

Reading from eye chart was; 6/24 (without pinholes) on grafted eye. With pinholes I’m getting 6/12. So very steady progress here.

The graft itself is clean and show no signs of infection and nor have I had any rejection episodes either. (X’d fingers that continues) I will be continuing on the same drops until my next appointment, which are; still on Rimexolone and Betagan twice a day and Xalatan once at night.

Also had Topography done which I found very interesting? Got a copy of test, which I hope someone can help with an explanation. Need to scan and have it on file, but that’s something I haven’t time to do.

Results:
Sim K’sAstig -5.4 D @ 54 Deg
Max: - 42.1 D @ 54 Deg
Min: - 36.7 D @ 144 Deg

All in all I am more than happy with my progress and will be taking all necessary precautions to keep it that way.

Basically you have astigmatism at 16.5 minutes past the hour if you imagine locking at a clock. That is where the maximum is.

The least amount of astigmatism is about 23 minutes past the hour.

Basically you have a few creases in the graft so removing a few stitches here and there helps remove that.

The cornea is very sensitive, so with the best will in the world, the surgeon can not get the same tightness on each stitch.

An optom will give a more detailed interpretation.

Good progress indeed. Well done.

Ihave nothing to add to Gareth's explanation of your reading. I quite like his description by "minutes past the hour".

How soon were people driving again after their grafts?

i use an RGP lens in my ungrafted eye and had my graft in about 5 weeks ago and havent driven since as my RGP lens in the other eye when i put it in causes both eyes to become swollen etc.

someone here said thats tired eyes and goes away in time. also i guess the brain is gettin used to the grafted eyes vision etc.

what are peoples experiences?

Within 6 months for me, but I did wait until I was told I made the minumum standard on the eye chart and then went back to my old driving instructor as I was down to one eye, just happend to be the graft.

Depens which eye you are relying on for sight.
