Hehe!
You need to place the lens on your index finger of whichever hand you want to use, i use my left hand to insert in either eye but you are taught normally to use the opposite hand to whichever eye you are inserting the lens into. Then you need to hold your upper eyelid with the hand not holding the lens, and use the middle finger of the hand with the lens to hold down the lower eyelid! Then open your eyes wide, hold your eyelids open, look down and slowly aim the lens towards the centre of your eye! Close your eye slowly and then open!!
Voila!!!
It takes some time and many use loads of different ways to do this but remember that practice makes perfect! Just choose a way that works for you and you will get used to it in no time. Then you will be like most of us here who are well used to lenses and able to put them in anywhere at any time! LOL!! Just make sure that the lens is wet with some solution as then it will stick well, and you will notice that it immediately gets 'sucked' onto your eye when you get close enough! EASY!
Don't rely on your eyes being open enough on their own, they do need a hand as you can never centre it really without moving your eyelids out of the way.

Thanks for all the suggestions, Andrew, Anne, Gareth, Jayuk and Sweet.
I'm experimenting a new style based on all your suggestions and see how it goes.. First, I'll curl my eyelashes and wait for it to set. Next, I'll "pull" my upper eyelid all the way up using my left hand. Finally, I'll push down my lower eyelid with my right middle finger and insert it using my right index finger. I really hate to cut any of my eyelashes unless as a last resort..
The curling part seems to work quite well, but my left-right hand coordination sucks.
I missed hitting the cornea several times, and ended up with the contact on the bottom eye white. Luckily, all it needs for me is to blink (with lots of tears) to reset the position of the contact.

Just a pointer here as to the lower eyelid problem...
The mistake most people new to lenses make is that they don't hold the lower lid properly. You need to make sure your finger is ON THE LID MARGIN ITSELF!
If your finger is even slightly below the margin, pressing hard (to try and keep the lid still) causes the bottom lid to turn inwards or outwards, depending on position, thus interfering with lens placement. Experienced contact lens wearers do this right automatically without thinking but inexperienced ones need a bit of coaching.
Hmmm you could do with setting a webcam up so we can all see what you are doing wrong!!
