KC is definitly not tunnel vision, that is where what you see is as if you are looking down a tunnel!
KC is a degeneration of the cornea, best description was by John Dart at the KC confence last year, the front of the eye takes on the shape of a saggy boob! This is the sever astigmatism, with KC it is further complecated by irregular astigmatism, so imagine that saggy boob with the texture of a crinkle cut chip.
Surface acts like a prism, bending and scattering light in all directions which is why everything is a blur, even close up.
More like looking through a car windscreen in driving rain with no wipers or looking through that a bathroom window that has that funny curved glass surface.
Hope this helps make it simple for non-kc people.

I read a book by Allan & Babara Pease. It said men tend to have tunnel vision while women are blessed with pheripheral (spelling check, anyone?) vision.
Imagine your fridge cluttered to overflowing. Tunnel vision means that although you can see all the stuff, you actually concentrates on the stuff right in front of you. Meaning if the oranges are at the bottom of the fridge, chances are you missed it. Pheripheral vision means you can see and concentrates on everything in the fridge (ask the ladies). This is also why women can find books in the library better than the men. Or so they claimed..
Hope this might be of help to explaining what is tunnel vision.

Sometimes there is no beating around the bush and you just hvae to resort to simple phrases that conjure up a reasonable metal image that the people your are describing KC to will never forget. That way they will not come back asking the same old questions
Jay, read Ben Eltons inconceivable, that is written about something my wife and I went through. There is an excellent description of one of the rooms and the literature contained within
