Hannah

Intacs are basically small plastic semi circular pieces which are inserted around the cornea to even the surface and thus make Lens Fitting easier

Further detailed info can be found at the following site; whilst also browsing the menu on the left

Hope that helps

can intacts be carried out if you already have had a corneal transplant. I understand that this is carried out by laser surgery, if this is carried out, can this harm the original corneal transplant

While I don't know for sure, my guess would be that you can't have INTACS after a graft.

The plastic segments are inserted through channels cut via laser or a blade inbetween the layers of the cornea.

I would be very suprised if a dr. would do this on a grafted eye.. at least within the first 4-5 years.

As Chris said, it would be highly unlikely for a consultant to use Intacs on a grafted Cornea...however!....I would suspect that if ever this was to be carried out, there would need to be some very good reasons in doing so........
