hi everyone,
thanks for all the replies. im surprised there were so many so quickly. they were v useful.
i've no idea what caused the scarring. i have white streaks on my cornea. its not that visible and mainly on left eye. i guess ppl may thinks its just the reflefction if they do notice it. i'll try and find out why i have them.
currently i wear hard lenses. have done for about 3 years. had to get them refitted a good few times as the shape of my eye has changed.
i see a doctor at an eye clinic tomorrow as i had to go to eye casualty last week! my left eye was aching and v light sensitive. i had to take a few days off work, not wear lenses and also use antibiotic eye cream. feels a bit better now though.
need to go to bed to rest my eyes now! if i dont get enough sleep wearing lenses the next day is painful.

Thanks John, I know this thread is mainly about scarring but it did touch on the topic of us worrying about our eyes potentially looking different because of KC in general, so I thought my photos might be relevant. (Photographing your own eye is a lot harder than it may seem!)
The truth is that sometimes people CAN tell, but they're generally too polite to mention it and/or we're oblivious to it for obvious reasons.
Scarring was a key factor in me being offered a graft also.
Rob.

Best of luck at the clinic Tim.
It could be that your scarring is caused by the cornea thinning and stretching, or it could be caused by contact lens abrasion.
If you are wearing "normal" RGP contacts, you may like to enquire about special lenses for people with KC, for example Rose K or RGP/Soft combination lenses. Alternatively, scleral lenses can be made that make no contact at all with the cornea.
Hopefully, the scarring will not be in your line of vision, otherwise they may suggest a graft to you.
Please let us know how you get on.

hi,
thanks for messages.
had to wait 2 hours over my appointment time!
anyway... the scarring is caused by the thinning of the cornea. it will affect my sight if it occurs in the line of vision.
i have been added to the keratoconus clinic at the leicester royal infirmary. they will keep a check on things from now on.
bye for now,
tim

Tim
thanks for updating us on your progress. I think that the problem with National Health Clinics is that they give everybody the same appointment time. I usually try to turn up in time for the beginning of the clinic so that I beat all the people whoa rrive together on patient transport.
All the best with your ophthalmological appointment at Leicester.

Please make sure the Cov & Warwick NHS do notget to hear about this appointment system. I get my letter with an appointmnet time on my doorstep within a week of my last visit so I have plenty of time to book the day off work which is alwaysas paid sick leave.
Turn up as per letter no more than 15 minutes before my appointment and the longest I have had to wait to be seen was 1 hour and that was because one optom was off sick and there had been a few emergencies that day. The team worked longer hours and through lunch to ensure as many of the appointmentsas possible were kept.
It's amazing that there can be such a big difference between neighbouring healt authoraties.
