My mum has just come back from hunting for saline but she couldnt find it anywhere which is a bit worrying as i'm on my last bottle! Im going into college tomorrow so i'll have a search in my local town. I may have sourced some on the internet for £1.75 a bottle but im waiting for a reply from the company. I'll let you know if i have any luck!
I think maybe moorfields should be told to see if they can find out about this shortage?
i'll try to contact them tomorrow.

one last question before i order these salines. Does it matter if the saline isnt preservative free? i phoned vison direct and they said it had 1 preservative in it, but the guy said its saline to clense and rinse for all types of contact lenses. i guess it just depends on whether im sensitive to a particualr preservative as they are used to kill bacteria. i'll give it a try anyway!

Most of the salines I've used are preservative free, but that doesn't mean it will neccessarily cause you a problem. If you have ever reacted to solutions before or to preservatives in solutions I'd be cautious. If you havn't ever experienced a reaction before then I'd give it a go, but just stop immediately if there were any hint of difficulty.
I use Opticrom in the spring for hayfever and that has preservatives, never caused me a problem and many years ago I did react to preservatives in solutions.
Give a go Sarah and let us know how you get on.

Preservatives usually stop bugs growing in the saline. The preservative free ones are usually sterile until opend and should be used within a week of opening.

I react to the preservatives, so use the preservative free and keep it in the fridge once opend to stop bugs growing. Even though the solution many of us store our lenses in chemically sterilises our lenses.

The only way is to try it and see, I only use the saline from Bauch and Lomb, because it is the only one I do not react too.

I didn't realise the preservative free had to be kept in the fridge, I've never done so, opps...
