saline solution

Postby sarah.w » Thu 02 Feb 2006 11:17 am

Hi
I currently wear scleral lenses and as many of you know, we get through many bottles of saline. I usually purchsase my saline from asda for just £1.49 a bottle. However asda are now no longer stocking this product due to technical difficulties with the supplier. Does anybody have any ideas where else i could go to get cheap saline? - bearing in mind im a student and cant afford to be purchasing top brand products!
Many thanks
sarah

Sarah

Have a look here

http://www.postoptics.co.uk/productsub. ... gue=Online

Also, something that I had to resort to when I went on holiday few years ago, was to boil water, let it kool down, then stick it in the fridge/freezer and use that on a daily basis.....I cleared this with my Optician as a potential solution!

Just thought Id mention it.

Thanks very much jay that sounds an interesting solution, i may have to give it a go!
I phoned post-optics and they said its not just asda's problem its a nationwide problem with a shortage of saline. They have sold out completly of ciba vision so i may have to try some different brands even if they are more expensive.
Thanks very much for your help

So I was right in my previous posting about saline, there really is a national shortage. I'm still having difficulty, picked up the last 4 bottles in a branch of Boots. The only problem with boiled water is that it's not as easy to use when it's not coming out of a nozzle.

This is turning into a major problem is'nt it!? My mum's off to look around the shops/chemists now to see if she can find some as im running low on saline. I may have to ask my optician about using boiled sterile water. I checked online of the ingredients of saline ands its filtered water and salt, boiled, but i will check it out for sure first.

Hi,

As a sceral wearer too, I had problem buying the solution. I managed to find 4 bootles in a Boots when shopping the other day.

I think its a case of BUY IT as soon as you see it. I once used the local brand the boots make and felt that worked ok. But went back to using Ciba as theres nothing like using what your comfortable with.

I wonder if Moorfields are aware there is a problem here?
