Hopefully the results will be posted here, regardless of the outcome, I am sure the data will give new avenues of investigation.

Rules of Research and Development;

1) Assume nothing.

2) There is no such thing as a wrong result, it just may not be what you were expecting (see Rule 1).

3) Admit nothing, research is always open for a healthy discussion, that is how we make progress.

Perhaps I should go home now, six day weeks getting to me, I remember when my parents enjoyed a three day week in the era of Labour Party Rule and strikes every other day!!!

Who says we have progressed!

Louise says she believes in hope, chocolate cake and the Prime directive:

I'll join you n the chocolate cake!
Or preferably outside the chocolate cake.

I remember the days of the three day week. I was a student and felt aggrieved that it did not apply to universities or colleges.

As a homeopath I'm delighted to hear that homeopathy has helped some of you with eczema. In homeopathy we see disease as a disturbance of the whole person. Disease which is manifested on the skin is actually a sign that the body is throwing out the disturbance. However this thought isn't much comfort when you are itching like crazy, as I well know! If you then resort to steroid creams, which are suppressive, you push the disturbance inside and create deeper pathology e.g. asthma. I unwittingly did this to my son in my attempts to relieve his eczema.

Homeopathy cured my asthma, which had been severe for 40 years. I got off steroid inhalers permanently 6 years ago. It is no surprise that I am now experiencing a return of mild eczema, as the disturbance is once more thrown outwards. I am confident that with continued homeopathic treatment this too will go.

Using Chinese medicine and homeopathy we reversed the process for my son and he is now free of eczema and asthma.

If any of you want to consult a homeopath, you can find a properly qualified and registered practitioner through the Society of Homeopaths.

Incidentally I'm in great demand when I go to South Africa. I'm known as the 'white sangoma'! I agree with Gareth about the 'wise women'.

Janet, I'm one of the people who sucessfully used homeopathy for eczema [sulphur] many years ago. I'm not so sure about reversing asthma though, that does feel like a very different kettle of fish. I resisted using Becotide all my adult life, just using it for 4 weeks during bad periods, but the incessant coughing reached such a point that I was hallucinating through sleep deprivation. The last bout in September was so bad, I had to have oral steriods and additional inhalers, the coughing affected my vocal cords and I could barely speak. Since then I've given in and taken the lowest dose of Becotide x2 a day, and further colds/viruses have not resulted in 4 weeks of constant coughing/no sleep. If I came off it, I would risk facing that again and oral steriods. How does homeopathy work here? Does a person come off inhalers and take the medicines, or gradually reduce?I've also read about the Buyteko method, retraining breathing which makes sense to me because I know my breathing is too shallow, I breathe from my upper chest only. However I don't see how that method could affect my allergy to pollen.

If I had a choice I would prefer to not use steroid inhalers because although at a low dose it's mainly a localised effect, not systemic like oral steriods, nothing is 100 %. I do worry about long term increased risks such as osteoporosis which is especially relevant to women.

Hi Louise,
As a homeopath, I would never tell a patient to stop their inhalers, steroid or Ventolin. They are life savers! And thank goodness for companies like Gareth's who develop them.

I work alongside the patient's current medication until they feel sufficiently better to begin to reduce their use of inhalers or oral steroids. It is important not to stop steroids abruptly anyway. They should always be tailed off slowly.

In my own case, I went in December 1999 for prophylactic treatment for hay fever (out of season). I took two doses of the remedy and discovered that when I forgot to use my steroid inhaler I didn't get wheezy. Normally within a couple of hours, I would be wheezing merrily. So instead of 2 puffs twice a day, I reduced to one puff twice a day for 2 weeks. When this was successful, I went to 1 puff once a day for another 2 weeks and then stopped. I was fine.

Since then, I have only used the odd puff of Ventolin in the hay fever season or as last weekend when staying in a house full of cats. I could never have even contemplated the latter a few years ago. I used to be wheezing like the clappers within 10 mins of entering a house with a cat. My hay fever is also much reduced. The other important thing I have achieved with homeopathy is the ability to have a cold without it becoming a chest infection or worse with severe asthma. 20+ years ago I used to have about 6 lots of antibiotics every winter. Now I cannot remember when I last had any.

This process with homeopathy is not necessarily quick. It requires persistence and consistency to unravel the case. I now take no allopathic drugs on a regular basis and feel so much better - no more shakey feelings from too much Ventolin!
