Hehe i knew that someone would have information on these so thanks!! I am just about to order one as i think that it is a great idea and the one i am ordering has a money converter on it as well! So that is going to be dam useful when i go to the states in April.

I do get a worrying feeling though that if i carry this gadget around with me as well that i could indeed get them both stolen. :( Hhmmm will have to think on that as really the whole point was to leave it safely stored away at home!!! I think that it is well worth the money though.

Thanks again and i will be looking into vibrating soap hehe as i always send my brother some strange pressies. He got a flying saucer to play with for Christmas which has amused him no end even though he is 26! LOL! Boys and their toys eh?!!!

Vibrating soap is excellent if you like your soap to have a good foamy lather to it without the effort of having to spend time moving the soap. A great labour saving device if you are in a hurry :D

As for the sim card reader, keep one in your bag and the other about your person, so hopefully if the worst were to happen, chances are you would still have one!!!

Check your mobile works Sate side, many European phones only work in Europe, the Americans are diferent so I think you need a dual band mobile to work in Europe and the USA in addition to one having the ability to roam networks.

I love firebox as well, loads of nice gadgets there!

Gareth thanks for the help, i think my mobile will be ok as i can send text messages to my friend ok and she sends them back quicker than my friends in London! Will maybe think on getting two though just in case but won't be taking the gadget out here, only when i need the converter abroad.

As for the phone... don't assume that it will work over there just because you can send texts. The GSM networks over there are compatible to ours, but run on a different frequency to the two used in the UK and Europe.

You will need to make sure that your handset is marketed as "tri-band" (dual-band isn't good enough) to stand a chance of working in the USA.

Indeed it is alot cheaper when you call from the country you are in to another country, as long as you have a mobile phone that was purchased from that host country. All to do with the tarrifs and how calls are priced

Does depend on phone, my Nokia is 6 years old and when I was last inGermany I got a pay as you go sim card and just slotted that in. Still have loads of credit, so cheap calls when I go in April.

Indeed, it's nothing to do with the phone, it's where the SIM card is registered that matters.
