Hi
I am 19 and have known i had KC for 6 years. I have had 1 tansplant in my left eye which was successfull in july 04. I take xalocom for high pressure as a result of the transplant and one drop of prednisolene daily. My right eye can be corrected with contact lenses but without correction it is at the finger counting stage. I also have a contact lenses for my left eye which corrects it to driving standard but the lens is too unconforable and is too unstable to wear continuesly. Also for the last month i havent been able to wear my right lens not sure why the eye just seems to sting alot, so i'm manageing without for the moment not too bad thoe a nice bubble of ignorance, if you cant see i then is not there lol. I have a contact lens clinic apointment at the end of this month so hopefully they can refit my contacts. Hope to become an active member on this board as i was on kcenter.org its good to vent and talk to people who actually know what your saying and arnt just being sympathetic.
thanks tom

Tommy

Welcome to the board!

tommid or similar wasnt it on KCenter?...I remember your posts if thats you........glad to see you found this place.....

What type of lens do you wear on the transplanted eye? And how long after your transplant did you have them fitted?...also, do you have any stitches remaining?

Excuse the question on your first post....lol....but its just amazing what you can find out from other people and there experiences.......

One thing that I have noticed amongst post graft patients is that lack of soft lens being tried....its generaly RGP lens and thats it...wthout any consideration for Soft Lens (such as the Kerasoft with Abberation control - Durawave)

When you say you are managing without; do you mean that you dont wear any lenses at all?

Hope your appointment goes well, fingers crossed.

What's your view on Cornea graft's?

I have Keratoconus in my left eye but not in my right eye.

I have tryed contact len in my left eye but it doesn't give me much better sight with the contact len in as the cone is very steer and narrow.

Do you suggest I go for a grapft or not?

I be grateful for your reply.

David.

Tommy,

Good to see you.

All the best with your appt. Let us know how you get on. Meantime you have already earned my admiration with the way in which you can manage without your lenses.

Hi Tommy!

I'm also 19 and have KC for 6 and a half years and went through a period of not being able to tolerate my lenses, the peseverence is worth it tho! :)

I keep hearing that there are soft contacts available for KC, where would u look in2 this? previously i'd been told that the traditional soft lens would only mould in2 the shape of the cornea and would be effectively useless. I'd love the option to try them. Is the wearing time any longer?

Emma

You would need to speak with your Optician regarding SoftLenses.

The two that I am aware of are Soflex and Kerasoft (if you do search on these two on this board you find the lookups and website)

The wear time, suitability etc all depend on how far down the KC road you are........my experience has seen that there equally or if not Better than GPs when your KC is at the starting and medium stages.

However, I took it to the extreme and piggbacked with the softlenses during the advanced stages..and it worked for me!.....

There definately worth a lookup!

J,

Unfortunately my KC is pretty well advanced, and ive always been wearing the hard lenses. What my specialist did do as regards to piggy back lenses is he put a soft lens behind my hard lens, its not actually separate which seems to be different to the traditional method of using 2 separate lenses in each eye. Ahwell looks like its still the hard lenses 4 me then!

Emma

Ahhhh ok I see what you mean. I agree that soft lens for Advanced KC is extremely hit and miss....although some have had success......but the thought isnt as exciting as if you have mild to medium KC
