All very useful indeed. But Claire - you have to admit that it is a long way to go for a short appointment!

Hehe yea, but i am going back not for my eyesight but to discuss eyesight problems for my link nurse role, and i might be asking how the whole KC referral issue is going! He has offered though to take a look at how my eyes are now which is nice :)

Also i do go home every six weeks or so to see the family and while i am there i get my hair done at my old hairdressers who is five times cheaper than London! So it is all more than worth it!! I need to keep in with things back home, as i don't think i will be staying in London forever!

I think here if you have a decent enough GP, you can play the game well to get reffered elsewhere.....thats been my experience anyway......its just how you play the game the determines if you get what you want...sad that its this way!...but what can we do!
KC is about facing the challenges it creates rather than accepting the problems it generates -

Funnily enough my optom told me that when he did the refferal letter for GP he was going to tell them which consultant I needed to see and that I was only to be refferred to that consultant and if the GP didnt send me to that particular consultant to let him know about it.

When I went to see the GP a week later about the refferal the GP said "Ah yes I have been told to send you to Mr DeCock and absolutely not to Mr xyz, the Optomotrist has been really quite specific".

I asked the optom when I saw him a few weeks back "Why Mr DeCock and not Mr xyz?" and he said one of them is useless and the other one really enjoys doing cornea transplants and I see a lot of them through post op care and he does a loverly job.

Usefully it was in my local PCT so it was not a major issue but I wonder what my GP would have done had the reccomended consultant been out of my PCT.

That's very interesting, Paul.

I was originally sent to my GP with a letter asking him to refer me specifically to Miss G.

I had no problems with Miss G., and her care was good. However, when the time for the graft came, she decided that because I was so young, she'd pass me on to one of her colleagues, Miss L. as Miss L. was better at doing grafts.

Miss G was apparently happy to do them on older people, where graft lifetime is less of an issue :?
