I've got a bottle of 1977 Vintage Port - will be drinking it later this year I suspect!

Pat, do you have a special occasion, or is it just that you want to use the Port before it goets older than 30 years?

Andrew
I - or should I say we, as in "my husband and I " - will be celebrating 30 years of wedded bliss! And his 60th birthday, and his retirement! Worth downing a bottle of decent Port in my view! (Especially as neither of us like Whisky!)

Something of a rarity (the 30 years wed) these days unfortunately!

Pat

I agree that longevity in marriage is a rare thing these days. It seems so easy to give up it's just another symptom of the throwaway society we live in.

Congratulation on your pearl wedding anniversary. This year Graham and I celebrate 29 years, the elder of my two bothers and Graham's sister both have pearl anniversaries, my parents celebrate 54 years and Graham's 53 so I guess there are still some of us around who think it's all worthwhile :)

Enjoy your port.

Lesley.

Pat

What a lovely idea: 30 year old Port to celebrate a 30th anniversary! I am afraid that Alison and I are mere striplings at 28 years in 2007.

Enjoy your landmark anniversary. Trumpet it to the hills: people need positive stories that amount to "Good News"! And may you continue to know bloesings as you embark on your fourth decade of marriage.

My marriage may only be in its 12th year, but I only have one friend who has been married longer at 15.

All the others who have been married have not managed more than 4 or 5 years. Some are onto their 4th marriage!

Must say, these peopel get married after only knowing each other for a couple of months!

I courted my wife for 5 years before we got married just to make sure we were suited to each other and no living in sin beforehand!

Mine was a wirlwind romance too. But now nearly 10 years married and 11 years since we met. Can't see being anything else but happily married.
Congratulations Pat, I hope you have a lovely time. The port won't dissapoint, Nelson's blood...

Andrew MacLean wrote:Could you suggest a Good Tequila? I have never found one of which I'd want to drink a second glass.

As to Port, I enjoy a glass after dinner. Taylors 40 year old. Very nice.

For sipping (straight up or on the rocks), I'd recommend a good anejo or possibly a resposado. Don Julio, El Tesoro, Patron, Cabo Wabo, just to name a few that are good.

I recommend it (anejo) with a few ice cubes and a drop or two of fresh lime juice (mexican or key limes if you have 'em). Or.. in a REAL margarita on the rocks (resposado or blanco): 2 parts tequila, 1 part contreau or premium triple sec, 1/2 part fresh lime juice.

As for port, my collection is mostly 1994 and 2000 vintages, but I do purchase one GOOD bottle of vintage port that is 'ready to drink' every year for Christmas with the in-laws. This year was a 1970 Taylor's. Last year was a 1966 Fonseca, and the year before that was a 1963 Dow. Mostly '77s before that.

I will typically drink a Tawny (usually 20 year) at a restaurant if I am in the mood for port during the rest of the year.
