Hello Catherine, I just wantesd to let you know that I am a KC sufferer, also luckily very mildly and live in Oundle. So if you want a chat or a moan please feel free to contact me. My E-Mail is Jacqueline@cheethamj.freeserve.co.uk Hope to hear from you soon.
I was once told by an optician that by not including enough fat in my diet was also a cause for uncomfortable lenses. Anyone else heard this one?

it has been a while since I last posted a message as there has been a lot happening.
My employment has been terminated due to my inability to fulfil my contract as I cannot see well
I visited Moorfield Eye hospital on 3rd December as locally in Cardiff they did not seem to be making any headway in improving or maximising my visual potential.
Although the graft I had in my left eye(May 2000) appeared successful vision cannot be achieved and they are also at a loss as to why
As my vision is poor in my left eye 5 lines of a chart and lenses cannot be tolerated for longer than a few hours at a time I am not sure what to expect
I cannot drive or read easily and wondered if there s any mileage in pressing to be registered partially sighted+
Is anyone else aware of benefits or indeed in same situation

Dear Carole,
I too had to leave my job after grafts and am currently retraining to do something I can manage. Since I got sclerals frm Moorfields my sight is much improved.
One of my main concerns post graft was that I could no longer read in bed/ without lenses. I discovered Calibre, a charity which supplies unabridged taped books, for blind, partially sighted and print impaired people. It's a lending library, post free. It totally changed my life, particularly at times when I had no lenses.
Their number is 01296 432339. Membership is free, but it costs them about £40 per year per member. They rely solely on donations, so are glad of any help. It costs about £250 to record and produce a new book. Books are read by professionals and there are more than 5,000 titles to choose from.
Hope this info might help a little in the meantime. Do hope Moorfields can help you.

Merry Christmas everyone!
It's now six months since I had my second graft done using the new procedures at the eye clinic in East Grinstead.
I am now back at work and have excelent unaided vision!
I simply cannot believe that I spent so many years as a KC sufferer trapped behind uncomfortable contact lenses.
I no longer have KC and my recovery has been remarkable.
I can only recommend that you all get down to see Mr Daya at the Queen Victoria Hospital. He has changed my outlook totally and improved my quality of life imeasurably. I only wish I had had the grafts sooner!
Good Luck everyone.
And A happy new year!!!

Posted a message a few weeks back about my allergies and KC. Eyes feel a lot better and saw contact lens specialist who changed my lens solution. However, I can still not wear them - my eyes water all the time and are still blurred - my vision is better when I take them out - which is not much, believe you me!!! Has anybody suffered this at all? I have had an allergy test which will take a month for result and seeing eye specialist this afternoon - would appreciate any comments about how I can get to wear the lenses - I try every day. I am still off sick from work as I cannot do my job, on computer for 8 hours a day, and am slowing getting more depressed.
Happy Christmas to you all!
Happy Christmas to you all!
Hi Helen
Sorry to hear that things have not improved for you.If you have tried different solutions with no improvement, it may be a reaction to the lens itself. What type of lenses do you wear? There are a many types on the market now.It is even possible to wear a soft lens under another lens ie a scleral lens. But, this is usually a last resort as it is very tricky to insert!
Basically you need to speak to an optomatrist about the otions available, I am sure there are alternatives that would help you.Which part of the country are you in?
GOOD LUCK-AND LET US KNOW HOW YOU GET ON.

Amanda,
Thank you for your kind words. I saw eye specialist yesterday who said there are other options with contact lenses which we will try but will more than likely have to have a graft in my left eye. I was very shocked and quite emotional but I suppose I will get there. I live in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, so see specialist at my local hospital but the contact lens specialist is from Birmingham - he seems to be very good. This site is a godsend as it is wonderful to talk to people who can understand. Thank you again!!

Firstly Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone..
Can anyone help me. For the past 4 or 5 months I have been suffering from the most incredible headaches. The pain is either in one eye or the other, or both. I'm not a headache sufferer normally. The Doctors really don't have much idea. I have to have some blood tests tomorrow. I wondered if any one else had problems like this, then at least I could live with it.
