RGP Irritation / Weepy Eye

Postby alan_mcghie » Wed 15 Jun 2011 4:57 pm

Hi All
I'm new to the forum, I was diagnosed with mild form of KC a couple of years ago & have a love - hate relationship with my hard lenses. My left eye is happy with a hard lens but my right eye (which is in slightly worse condition) swings from ok to pretty bad & especially in strong sunlight. My Right eye gets irritated & tears up quite bad to the point where I find it hard to keep open. Even after I take the lens out my eye is still very teary & I can't do much with it.
I do wear sunglasess when I'm out in the bright daylight but they might not be the best quality or suitable for KC condition. My optician reckons that my eyes have been pretty stable over the last couple of years & that the fitting / prescription is pretty good (I wear the micro lens & have had the edges thinned down to help)
Has anyone else had this problem?
What did you do to fix it?
Thanks
Alan

Absolutely yes. Both photophobia and the 'weepy eye' you describe are common to keratoconus.

Actually, ironic as it may seem, the weepy eye seems to be a variant form of 'dry eye'. When my eye goes all teary I apply clinitas soothe in the same was as I would if my eye was dry and itchy.
