Fantastic news

Postby crakerjacker » Tue 13 Apr 2010 7:30 pm

Just got back from seeing James. Haven't seen him for 6 weeks and I reckon he has missed me, haha.

Had a bit of a chat about this and that and then he looked at my eye. NO LUMPS OF SKIN!!!!! None whatsoever. He said it is the best he has ever seen it. We are not sure whether this is due to the lack of bandage lens or the new technique I have discovered to help my lid margins.

The new technique is simply a Face sauna. Got it from Argos for about £8 and it just steams your face. It comes with a nose steamer! hahaha. Instead of putting my nose in it I put my eye over the attachment. It is a lot easier and quicker that using the heat bag and moistens the eye at the same time. James said he is going to buy one and experiment with it as he has other patients that he suggests a heat bag to and is always looking for new ways to help things move along.

Anyway, back to the eye.

2 stitches were loose so needed removing so he put the drops in my eye and then got his needle out with the blade at the end and snipped each stitch and pulled them out with forceps. It didn't hurt, unlike last time. Its weird as it makes a 'ping' when he cuts it and then tickles when he pulls it out. His hands must be so steady it's unbelievable.

As I have seen him every month for past 18 months we get on quite well and we had a laugh about stuff and seeing him again in 6 weeks.

I have to maintain the prednisolone at 4x a day and the manage it myself to reduce it to 3x a time when I feel the time is right. He has also asked me to go back onto the antibiotic, chlorophenicol, until the weekend at 6x a day as he has removed the stitches and wants to ensure no infection gets in.

He said that we have now crossed a threshold as the skin is fine and we now have to concentrate on getting the stitches removed. He thinks they will all be out by the end of the year. We can then start work on the vision.

He also said that, although I am not seeing him for 6 weeks, he anticipates that I will be calling him on his mobile before 6 weeks as some stitches may come loose so will need to get them removed. He said he will be able to see me straight away whether that is at the usual place, yorkshire eye hospital, or at St James, Leeds. Depends where he is on the day.

He did also say that the skin could go back to how it was but he wouldn't expect it to.

that is fantastic news for you.

from what you written previously it has been a very frustrating time the past 18 months so some good news is finally overdue for you. I hope that the reason why you see your consultant before your 6 weeks is up is due to the stitches coming lose and no other reason.
