On Thursday of this week, the QE2 will make her final visit to the Clyde before she is taken out of service.
Built at Clydebank (just outside Glasgow), the QE2 was brought down the river to Port Glasgow to be fitted out at the Dry Dock. The dock had to be modified to take her, and to this day there is still a "V" that was cut into the wall of the dry dock to accommodate the bow of the QE2.
This week the QE2 will visit Greenock to take on passtengers as part of her farewell tour. Maybe I'll buy that camera.

Re: QE2
Might go and see her in Liverpool, which is next week IRC.
Last saw her, from 2 different places - Calshot Spit and Hythe (what a mad dash that was to get to the pier) steaming back up Solent Water on her return from the Falklands.

Re: QE2
Do we know what her ultimate repose is? A scrap yard (I hope not), or the ignominy of a dry dock hotel like the QM?

Re: QE2
Hi Guys
Please take some piccies! We are going on a cruise on her next year - when we realised that 2008 would be our last opportunity, we booked a Spring break going to Western France, Northern Spain and Lisbon in April/May next year just for the experience.
And for the answer to her demise, follow this link. This was actually announced whilst we were on our P & O Cruise earlier this year - and everyone on board drank a toast to her! (Cunard are a sister company to P & O)

At least she won't be scrapped!

Re: QE2
Here is the QE2 as she arrived at Greenock this morning

(I did not take this photo, but borrowed it from Inverclyde Now.
For more pictures you could go to

John, I'd almost prefer that the QE2 did go to the breaker's yard than that she ended up in dry dock somewhere as an hotel or casino.

Re: QE2
Ys, the QE2 is an outstandingly beautiful liner. After she has been decommissioned she is off to Dubai to be a permanent fixture on the waterfront. A sad ending for an outstanding example of Scottish Engineering.
