Piggy backing disaster!

Gee what a four hour torture and something I don't want to go through again! My poor eye is so painful now it hates me!!!

I had to take my RGP lens out quickly this afternoon as it was really painful. I completely forgot about the soft one underneath and just wanted to give my eye a rest. Two hours later my eye was still really painful even with loads of Systane and TLC. In the end I remembered about my soft lens and after about half an hour of looking for it convinced myself that it was still in my eye!

I know, people are saying, YES RIGHT! I couldn't see it but the top of my eye was so painful I was convinced it was there. I used some anaesthetic eye drops and got a cotton bud soaked in saline and finally after an hour of cleaning underneath my eyelid found my soft lens! It had rolled itself up and squashed itself right under my eyelid! OUCH!!!!

Now my poor eye is really hurting and hiding from me!!! It is silently asking me please not to put lenses in it again, so I am going to let it off this weekend!

Please though new readers don't panic as after 16 years of wearing lenses this has never happened before and I have never forgotten about the soft one underneath! I think I was too concerned with taking out my lens on my grafted eye as I was over wearing it and was too complacent I think.

Hope your eye's are feeling better soon sweet and you can get your lenses back in, i bet that was a terrible experience for you and your eye it's making me cringe just thinking about it, I remember when i wore a rgp how painful that could be if it slipped off the cone as you say though these type of things are a rare occurrence. Hope all is better for you tomorrow.

That's horrible Sweet. I find those soft lenses can be difficult to find at times, especially when they get dry. I often wonder if it's fallen out or still in there somewhere!!!
I had a similar experience (Just not as intense) a wk or so ago... I took out my RGP at work because it was really sore (so I figured maybe the soft lens had moved)... I went to centre it and for some reason it ended up coming out as well - except I noticed it was missing a chunk.
Had to fish around in my eye for ages to find the missing piece and eventually got it. My eye became really irritated though.

I find for some reason i'm also really talented at getting the soft lens to fall out whilst keeping the RGP in. Don't know how I do it but it hurts a lot! lol

I just have a question for you: I wrote to you in another post about air bubbles a little while back (but think you missed it). I just wondered if you have any problems with them? There's no consistency with my vision at the moment. It seems ok, then all of a sudden gets really blurry and I can see the bottom of my lens (like I used to with my RGP before I got one with a bigger diameter)... It's like there's some kind of glare coming off the soft lens (which I think is just the air bubbles). Do you know any way to fix or improve these?

Sorry for missing your post before! I don't get any air bubbles with my soft lens, but it does get foggy after a long time of wearing it and I have to take it out and clean it. Maybe your RGP moves a lot? I tend to find that mine stays in the same place. Maybe this is why you can take your soft lens out without the RGP!! I have only done that once!

My eye is still a little painful but not as bad as yesterday! Loads of Systane and rest I think!!

Yeah I have noticed a fogginess as well.
I find there's no real comparison between just wearing the RGPs and piggybacking. The vision was so much clearer before, it's just a shame I can't tolerate them without the soft lenses! Even now I notice my comfort is nothing like what it was when I 1st started piggybacking, so I fear it's only a matter of time till I need to move on to something else.
My eyes are also still bright red.. which is the most annoying part of all.
I agree about the RGP moving. Lately in both eyes it slips off the soft lens and floats around my eye (very painful) ... and it's annoying to take it out too as I haven't mastered doing that and keeping the soft lens in it's place at the same time!!!

Ouch! that sounds painful I have lost my rgp under my upper eye lid once or twice and it bloody hurts! I dont know how you manage to piggy back, it takes me all my time to get used to inserting and removing my rgp

lol yeah.. that's why it's so annoying.
I'm that used to the RGP I don't need a mirror to put iit back in, but once the soft lens stuffs up i've got no chance!!!

Thanks everyone for the replies!! Michael no I wasn't out drinking!! LOL!!!

My eye is much better now after leaving my lenses out all weekend and using loads of Systane. Am hoping that I won't get this again as it really was the most painful thing ever!! If I didn't have any anaesthetic drops I would have had to go to Moorfields to get them to look at it for me!

Kirsten piggy backing for me is normally really good. I did wear for RGP for about 15 years with no problems at all and then I got the worse pain ever and my eye was always red. Piggy backing it is much better and it rarely goes red, it is normally because I have been rubbing my eye before I put my lens in!

Glad to hear your eye is feeling much better now Sweet!
You must be lucky with your lenses. I only wore RGPs for about 3 yrs or so and my eyes were pretty much constantly red from that moment.
Then they became way too painful so we decided to try piggybacking in the hope the redness would disappear and i'd have increased comfort.
The comfort is much better, but the redness still persists!!! It does fade a bit overnight but once I put the lenses back in it becomes a lovely bright red all over again.. not fun at all.
I'm going to be trying the synergeyes next year (when they are finally distributed to Aus) and hopefully that will allow me to look "normal" again!
