contact lens

I know this may seem like a minor issue to some of you but i thought id post it anyway in the hope that someone will provide me with some useful info.

I wear hard contact lenses occassionally for my KC but when i put them in i never get them on the cornea on the first attempt therefore i end up spending up to 30mins pushing the lens around the white of my eye to get it into the centre . Is doing this going to cause some sort of damage to my eye ??

The left lens is much harder to move about and it seems to clamp onto wherever it lands for a good while . This means that when it does eventually get moving it sometimes leaves a red circle on my eyeball where it originally landed . Is that bad ??

I used to get this problem when I first had lenses and put it down to the shape of the eye and the lens, as during the day, the lenses were prone to slipping off the eye. That was 17 years ago and my KC was well advanced.

I now have a different type of GRP lens and sometimes the lens goes in off centre but does not stick. For me, this is because I am either tierd when I try and put them in or at the last moment I just look away!! It is important to look straight ahead and keep BOTH EYES open.

Due to the cornea being 'damaged' it would be advisable to see your consultant if you continue to have problems. You do not want to damage your eyes.

You say you do not wera them all the time, for me I have to wear them all the time, so it might be just a case of wearing them more frequently. Practice makes perfect, please do not take this a critisism.

The most comfortable way for me to move a lens off centre is to do it with they eye concerned closed. That way, my finger is not in my eye to move the lens, but just pushing the eye lid to hold the lens. Look the opposite way to where the lens is lodged, it brings the lens into a more managable area. Then by 'trapping the edge of the lens (ie to stop it sliding back again), move your eye back to the centre and it should locate the lens where it should be.
