Is there a quick solution?

Postby fisha2004 » Wed 25 Aug 2004 3:05 pm

Hi,
My name is Dan im 18 and have KC in both eyes. Ive had it for around 2 years now and i wear contact lenses. I used to be light sensitive with the soft lenses, but with the hard lenses im not anymore plus i get on with them. I saw a advert on tv "Ultralase" could it cure KC without wearing lenses?

Dont't think so, ultralase is more for shor sighted. In KC the cornea is thinning so giving rise to the astigmatism. My understanding is the laser causes the refractive properties of the cornea to change. When I went short sighted some time after my graft I enquiered about the laser treatment and was advised against it.

My personal opinion is if you are getting on OK with lenses stick with them.

Hi Dan,

I enquired about this also, and was told that the laser treatment takes a layer off the Cornea that would damage a KC patients eye even further.

I think if laser treatment did work - everyone would have done it by now. £2000 for new eyes - yes please!
