KC Forum - Web fame and solutions

Postby Mike Oliver » Tue 07 Nov 2006 8:56 pm

I was just searching on Google for somewhere to order Ami Dose or Steripod saline. Guess what? When I entered ami dose, 2 of the 3 top results were extracts from recent entries on this forum.Makes you wonder how many people come across us by chance and where else the various threads are picked up.

In course of searching I came across by chance the regulations listing all the substances not to be prescribed. It is several miles long (or it seemed like it) but I looked long enough to see that both Ami dose and Bausch and Lomb products were there - presumably the other solutions and saline are also listed.

Without researching the Regulations carefully, I don't know whether they apply generally, only to external pharmacies or to hospitals as well. Also they are 2004 regs. and I'm not sure if there have been amendments - but I think what I was looking at would have included these.

I did find sites for both steripod and Ami Dose , but plumped for steripod as it was cheaper.

This is where the parlimentary response we got is at odds with the hospitals.

When Marian Bargery's MP asked questions of the health minister it was reported Yes we are entitled to solutions on prescription.

Then we have the list you refer to that says No.

As a group we now need to find a way round this that solutions are either prescribed through the hospital or the local GP etc.

Or get something where the government view and the NHS ability to deliver come to some common ground everyone understands.

All an uphill struggle but as your Google search revealed our name is out there and we want to be heard. :D

I was at Moorfields today they are handing out a leaflet stating how they now only prescribe for 1 month as reported earlier.

James - I hope you were also told that the pharmacy does now sell solutions at discount price which is the message I was given.
