Corneal Transplate

Hi alexsss

The problem with this sort of site is that each of us has a different experience, and we all know how dangerous it is to generalize from a particular position.

Does your hospital have a contact lens department? If they do, then no doubt you will have been assessed for all sorts of different contact lenses. If you have not seen a contact lens specialist, maybe you should ask about a referral.

If it turns out that a Corneal Transplant is the right option for you, don't worry about it. Lots of folk have had this operation and live with well restored eyesight.

Keep in touch

Hi Alex,

I´m not an OD but I think you have much more options nowadays than graft. You shall consider graft as the last option believe me. New procedures and techniques enable surgeons to deal with KC much more effective with less risk (of course you have to meet certain requirements). There are intacs, Ferrara rings, collagen cross linking method, conductive keratoplasty, mini ARK and many new approaches. Some of them are still experimental or disputable but you shall definitely seek for all available option. So far there is no cure for KC and all the available procedures have pros and cons.

For example me. I passed Ferrara rings 1,5 year ago. I was at stage III with both eyes unable to wear RGPs and planned to go for graft. After the surgery and tough time I had(I had complication with segment extrusions) I ´m sitting here using glasses for correction for more than 8 months. If you want to learn more you can read my diary http://www.kcsupport.org/Ferrara_Diary.html or see the medical articles about new techniques here http://www.kcsupport.org/links_library.htm or get initial info about them here http://www.kcsupport.org/

Please feel free to ask anything , I will be glad to answer
Take Care

Roman
