I´m not an OD but I think you have much more options nowadays than graft. You shall consider graft as the last option believe me. New procedures and techniques enable surgeons to deal with KC much more effective with less risk (of course you have to meet certain requirements). There are intacs, Ferrara rings, collagen cross linking method, conductive keratoplasty, mini ARK and many new approaches. Some of them are still experimental or disputable but you shall definitely seek for all available option. So far there is no cure for KC and all the available procedures have pros and cons.
For example me. I passed Ferrara rings 1,5 year ago. I was at stage III with both eyes unable to wear RGPs and planned to go for graft. After the surgery and tough time I had(I had complication with segment extrusions) I ´m sitting here using glasses for correction for more than 8 months.
