whats with my left eye ?

Postby affable » Thu 13 Jul 2006 7:46 pm

Hello, This website is a source of satisfaction & inspiration for those who r losing hope that life is no more fun coz of KC.Members here r optimistic and are always ready to give good suggestions (inferred from the posts i have read :D ) I m happy to find this website.
========
History
--------
I was diaganosed with KC at the age of 21(3 years back) with severe KC in right eye and mild in left one . The doctor suggested me to use the RGP in right one and glasses for the left eye.
-------------------

Questions I want to ask.
=======
I use RGP in right eye and rarely use glasses for the left eye because i dont find much difference with glasses.
The doctor declared 6/6 vision in the right eye with the lens and yes the vision is almost perfect even i read all the alphabets on the chart BUT...

1) when i use the lens everything becomes crystal clear but its not that comfortable when i try to read anything .The lens becomes a lil painful because i try to concentrate and the text is blurry normally .I asked the doctor to prescribe me numbered glasses on the lens but he said whats the use of this lens if u have to wear the numbered glasses over the lens .There is no other doctor related to KC in my city so i have to consult him .so do i need to get a better fitting or the glassses ?

2) I m doing mechanical engineering .I have to use computer to make presentation and for the data search.It puts burden on my eyes and ofcourse in near future when iwill be doing a job i will be using computer more . I am a lil nervous will i be able to spend so much time on computer because i really feel i cant spend much time on computer . Iget headache my eyes get painful .The lens starts hurting my eye .Thats mainly because of the bright screen .I have read the posts related to bright light but it seems the people r referring to sunlight .I have no problem with sunlight but the tubelight or monitor screen light is more painful and hinders perfect vision. Sunglasses of stylish hats cant be the solution for it.

3)As i have mentioned i use the lens in right eye so there is an imbalance in the vision i feel Like both eyes trying to compete each other although the vision is very very good but still it makes me like if i start using lens in left eye as well then this imbalance will be nomore . am i right in this case ?

4) I have not visited the doctor for the last 5 months. I m gonna meet him this weekend .I feel like i need to get the lens in left eye as well because there is pressure on my left eye as it is the one with which i see when i dont use the lens.
I can see good without lenses as my left eye has mild KC but for the last few months i have noticed even i can see good with left eye but it is painful now to depend on it . It gets tired very easily and if i use the computer without lenses even then the left eye becomes heavy after the use and starts to pain .I feel like there is something left in the eye.Do u think its the sign that i shud go for the lens in left eye as well ?

5) when i wake up in the morning my vision is blurry (without lenses) and starts getting well but very slowly like it takes almost 15-20 mins to get it back to normal(without lenses) .is it the situation every KC patient facing ?
OK GUYS , THESE R THE QUERIES FROM MY SIDE . I SHALL BE THANKFUL IF U GIVE A FEW MINUTES FROM UR PRECIOUS TIME TO THIS POST .KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK , MAY GOD BLESS U .

Hi, and welcome.
It is quite possible your eyes are changing,a nd that a different lens, a new lens for left eye, or combination of lenses and glasses is needed now.
No reason why you shouldn't have contact lens for distance vision (going about town, etc) and a pair of glasses for reading and/or computer use. hey, lots of people without KC put on reading glasses and/or computer glasses - and some even have a pair for reading books and apir ofr reading the computer.
You're not alone having problems reading a computer screen - windows-style gui screens are quite beyond my eyes!
First step - you've probably done this already - is to try what you can with adjusting the screen controls. If your screen has a glare screen mesh or coloured glass thingy, TAKE IT OFF! They are designed to protect from reflections on the glass from lights, windows etc, and only complicate issues of brightness from the screen's emitted light. (If you get problems with relfections from windows, etc, try making a hood round the screen from a flattened and re shaped cardboard box.
Then try to adjust the contrast and brightness buttons.
You might find it helpful to change the screen colours using the software settings - for example, green letters on a black backgrounds mean the total area of the screen emitting light is lower.
If your admins have loaded it (!) you should be able to find an "accessibility options" programme which will make the writing bigger, or much bigger, and alter colour schemes.
there are also software packages on the market which enlarge the screen, or parts of it, and change colours, and change cursor size/design/colour, all at the touch of a hot key. Zoomtext is one, and Lunar, from Dolphin systems is another.
If you are still using a CRT monitor, you might find some of the new, TFT flat screens are easier to read.
Good luck.
Rosemary

Thanx rosemary for ur reply , i wanna know is it possible i use numbered specs on my lens because the things become very crispy and clear with lens but the fonts and texts become blurry . May be the numbered glasses remove this error as well .
