KC and glasses

Postby ADEWALLER » Tue 05 Nov 2013 1:49 pm

Since having KC in both my eyes for over 20 years I've spent a fortune on glasses as my sight changes so regularly. I can not wear contact lenses as my eyes really don't like them when they are in as they swell up or are too uncomfortable to wear.

My question to the group has anyone found a way of paying for glasses on a monthly direct debit basis? If so could you post as I hope that once I've settled from my latest transplant to explore this option as I know I'm going to have several changes whilst my vision changes over the next few years.

I don't know of any opticians who offer this as a service however one option could be to put a certain amount into a savings account each month and use that to fund the new glasses. Obviously you'll need to start the saving in advance of the need for the first set but it can help with budgeting.

Savings accounts are a good ideas but as you know due to having KC. Glasses are more exsoensive and I know I'm gonna need a couple of changes.

Indeed, roughly £330 for lenses in mine and I was changing them every 4-6 months at one point - thankfully onto contacts now.

Totally agree. Don't want to think how much I've spent on glasses since being diagnosed with KC. Would love to wear contact lenses but have tried all types and I just can not get comfortable with them.

Just wish there were options as people seem to make a lot of money out of this condition. :(
