It may take a couple weeks or more to be able to ignore the lens edge as you wear lenses for longer, you will find more to take your attention away from it. Same goes for the discomfort on the eye lid.
However worth keeping a note of it for when you next see the optom. They may be able to refine the fit.

Wednesday (day 6) - feeling very fed up! 
I've only managed 45 mins. today - and that after taking the lens out twice and cleaning it again (with saline and wetting solution - not the cleaner!). It has felt horrible today - almost like back to square one. As well as the scratchy feeling underneath my upper eyelid which I've had all along, it has been stinging occasionally - the kind of feeling you get when you get dust or grit or an eyelash in your eye.
I won't give up, but I have for today - am disappointed with me!
And I'm already noticing how naff my vision is without the RGP - I knew it was bad but now I realise how bad!

If you are having problems, perhaps the fit isn't right.
I have had to have lenses replaced because the fit was wrong. I think perhaps you should go back to MEH because it sounds to me like your progress is a little slow.
It is better that they check you out rather than you continue to suffer.
I think you should try to get the contact lens dept to see you or failing that go to casualty and tell them that the lens is painful.
Let's see what others think.

I hope you have a better day with your lenses tomorrow. Are you putting them in first thing in the morning, I need to let my eyes 'clear' for an hour or two before lenses or they become irritable.
Could your fluffy cat be causing problems, I have problems with my lenses if I'm around fine haired animals and even if wearing very fine haired jumpers etc!!

Hi Pat , Sorry to hear things are not so good today.
I can not offer any advice to you as i have never worn contacts,( well only for the trying out period!!) I do know how you feel about not realising how bad your eye sight is and it is a horrible feeling.

Anne - thanks - that sounds a great idea - I will pm you shortly. (Maybe I can bring you a portable freezer for your daughters snowballs....that made me laugh too this morning!)
Val - I banned the cat from my lap today (poor thing - he's ancient and really likes me being around!) , but I did have a very slightly fluffy jumper on today which may not have helped. But like you I have to let my eyes settle in the mornings - it takes mine a good couple of hours too. But I didn't try my RGP until 4ish this afternoon.
Michael - I'll have another go tomorrow first and make sure that there's nothing external that might have some effecti.e..fluffy jumpers, cats, dogs, men(!) around etc and if that doesn't work I'll give Moorfields a call as you suggest.

Each day is so different with lenses. Sometimes we get brilliant days, we don't feel the lens and get perfect vision! Other days we can't even get the little things in!!
Take it easy and don't be too worried about time keeping. Just take the lens out when you are in pain or discomfort. Your eyes tell you when they don't like lenses before the clock does!
