Many patients experience some discomfort, tearing, or inflammation due to RGP lenses. They also increase the rare risk of infection. The corneal epithelium, just like your skin, serves as a barrier to prevent infections. The epithelium is removed during epi-off CXL procedures. Primarily to lower the risk of infection, it is generally recommended that contacts are removed at least a few days before the operation. Removing them a week or two before the operation may even be better, but this is not always possible for someone who has a tremendous difficulty seeing anything without the contacts in place.

in australia its going to cost my son $2000 per eye. he is very worried about the procedure as he also has congenital nystagmus and therefore can not hold his eyes still. so far the doctor has not told him how they plan to stop his eyes wobbling from side to side while they do the procedure. any information would be helpful to stop his anxiety thanks.
