[quote="Carol Vines"] yes but on seeing the size of the schleral mark will appreciate how small the rgp lenses are.
Sclerals *are* all RGP these days. Do you mean corneals (the small ones that don't go further than the iris)?
But yes, whatever they're made of, having seen a scleral or two will make the corneals look less frightening.
Probably!

The pedant in me hates it, but I'm beginning to think that most people (and I mean us here!) treat the term "RGP" to mean the small RGP corneal lenses, rather than the material such lenses are made of.
I think the fact that pretty much all sclerals are made of RGP material has come to mean that the RGP term is meaningless to describe a scleral.
Anyway I'm waffling now. Time to shut up again!

oh silly me, yes i mean the small lenses that are meant to sit over the iris; my right one is prefering to spend more time stuck up my top eyelid but thats another story; as you so correctly say john we tend to consider them as rgp's not thinking about the material etc, well corrected rosemary, i do feel daft now

Hehe, yes we do tend to call corneal lenses RGP's, i come here and post that all the time, and then turn around and talk about sclerals, when they are all the same material just completely different sizes!!!!!! It isn't a term for the lens but for the material it is made from, and i need to remember that as well!!
Dam confusing people we are!!! Hehehe!
Mark - I hope it all goes well on Monday, will be thinking of you and wishing you the best!
A big question you may need to remember to ask ... if there are any problems at all with these lenses where do i go?? The first time i had a problem, which was a few months after i had them, it was the middle of the night and i was completely lost! Having been given lenses by a high street optician it was obviously closed by night and i didn't know what to do! Luckily my friend also wore lenses and helped me out, but it is worth knowing where your nearest eye casualty is, just in case!!
Take it easy and remember ... relax! opticians won't bite you for asking questions!!! LOL!!!

I think much of the way we refer to lens types is down to how the optomotrists and doctors discuss lens options.
Since my nearly monthly visist to the hospital in the past 18 months Scerals have been called Sclerals and the corneal lenses as RGP's. This seems to be common practice among all the eye units I have visited in this period.

Hi all
I went on monday and the contact lens fitter was fantastic. He is the first 'Doctor' to explain KC to me, we tried half a dozen lenses and ended up with small RGP's.
The lenses arrived yesterday and i am now typing with them in and for the first time in a few years i can see with both eyes. (Its weird)
Thank you all for your support.
ps. I will fill in the post about cost to let everyone know the position in Sheffield regarding paying for our lenses.
