The Eye rubbing link was due to the corneal tissue being "broken" down each time you itch the eye....so in theory it would make the cornea tissue thinner..........and thereafter further research was performed on the enzymes in the cornea being less prevalent for corneal tissue refresh.................all in the air...but the enzyme in KC eyes has been proved to be lower than that of "normal" eyes
KC is about facing the challenges it creates rather than accepting the problems it generates -

As jayuk says, the eye rubbing thing is a theory which is a long way from there being any actual proof of a connection - I never used to rub my eyes, although I do now sometimes when I take my contacts out.

And if eye rubbing is the cause then how could this also cause the nerves on the retina to be different for KC patients - the nodes where the nerves meet are thicker - I took part in a KC research project last year where a powerful microscope was used to photograph the retina and was shown pictures of mine and more advanced cases.

Thanks to all for your comments.

Tom - try not to worry too much. My sister also wears glasses and started to do so before I did, she was still at school and couldn't see the board. However, she has no signs of KC. She has astigmatism however with her glasses on can still see much better than I can.

If your brother is checked out, due to your own circumstances that is best. At least any problems if there were to be any would be picked up quickly.

best wishes

Susan
