it was a high street optom who said i might have KC, never said much just eye was changing shape, may need hard contact lenses or a transplant. I was about 22 and was told he would contact my gp and would hear from the hospital. Went to hospital and didn't recievce much info and returned yearly never seeing the same person. It wasn't till a few years ago i started to see the same person at the hospital and receive very good eye care.

My son was diganosed about 3 years ago (now 14) from the local optom, who was very nice and started to explain that jordan had a very rare eye condition and the shape of his cornea was changing, he was shocked when i piped in i know what he was explaining as i also had it, but i did feel he know knew his stuff on KC.

We changed hospitals to Ayr about 2 years ago, due to the equipment and we both see Mr Srinivasan. He referred jordan to a optom who has had a lot of experience of KC and i also recently started to go there. The continuity of care has changed alot in the last few years and the support i have received for jordan has been great. Communication is also very important between hospital and optom.

Having a optom who you can trust, talk to, a good listener, make time for you, not rush the appointment, especially when fitting contacts, prepered to answear any questions i feel are important.

Great to read that you are a optom whos interested KC, my son is also interested in becoming a optom and said he wants to help everyone with KC, tell you the truth i thought he would have had enough of them in the last 3 years lol

Hi Saoirse Im also just coming to the end of my Optom training and I also have KC. I dont know about you but if i hear about kearatoconus one more time in my lecture notes I am actually going to vomit. Doing a research project on it at the moment they are mad for it over here in Dublin.

Tell me on another note HOW ARE YOU PREPARING FOR THE PQE'S any good advice you have been giving etc ??

An optom with keratoconus - interesting! How severe is your particular case, in terms of VA with lenses? Have you had to make many adaptations to your routine, eg. Volk etc, as a result?

PQEs are soul-destroying. There aren't really any huge tips other than just work work work work work. Haha. Did you do a lot of study on KC in your uni? It really didn't have a huge focus when I was at uni.
