I remember seeing a documentary about poor people in India selling their organs to westerners in order to feed their families, a kidney, a bit of liver, and then a cornea. It was a hand over my mouth to stop the scream moment, the image of that man minus his cornea blind in that eye will always stay with me.

At Moorfields the wait is 3-4 months

Hi

I had my graft privately. Not sure how much the actually graft cost as i never received a bill as it went straight to my insurance but the follow up consultations are £90. I am 9 month post graft and still on the full whack of medication I was on in the first month post graft. I shouldn't be by now but the cost of the medication is expensive.

I called my doctor and asked them if i can get the medication through the NHS. They had a meeting and agreed that i could. This has saved me a fortune as I have a pre-payment prescription card that costs about £27 a quarter. To say I have 8 lots of medication on repeat this has paid off superbly. I would say on a average month i collect at least 5 prescriptions. Thats over £35 a month so well worth speaking to your doctors to see if you can get the treatment on the NHS if you have the graft privately.
