With dry eyes it can feel like you ahve something in your eye because one area is dryer than the rest of the ey if that makes sense.

Personally I would bite the bulit and play it safe and go to the unsympathetic eye casualty, they might feel you have wasted their time but at least you would have piece of mind that there is nothing extra wrong. Should there be a problem at least you are getting it treated sooner rather than later when it might be a bigger problem which might impact on you new job.

You come first and as you are eager to start your new job that must be a priority for you to.

Thanks for your advice Gareth,

I did bite the bullet and went upto the eye hospital yesterday afternoon and as thought was made to feel like i was waisting their time by the nurse. The nurse had a look in both my eyes and said that he could not see anything wrong but i had better see the doctor anyway. At this stage i felt like leaving. However, i did stay and i'm glad i did. The doctor was lovely and i was told i have some small cornial scratches on my eye and that i still have an infection.

I was given more drops and was signed off for another week. This is not ideal but as you said if i did'nt get the problem sorted out it would only gets worse. At least it has happened before i start my new job.

The thing that really annoyed me was the way the nurse made me feel like i was making a meal out of nothing. It just shows that nurses are not there to diagnose or jump to conclutions. This nurse should have been trying to put me at ease not make me feel worse than i already did. I know nurses are overworked and very busy and maybe he/she was having a bad day, but so was I.

I am still not sure how i got the cornial scratches and neither was the doctor. But what i do know is that my eyes are very sore and now i am as blingd as a bat for another week.

I would also just like to say how great this site is. It is the only place that i can go where people have some understanding of what i am going through.

Thanks

Dolphin

Hopefully you are now well on the road to recovery.

I know with a corneal lens it just takes a small bit if grit under the lens to casue a cornal scratch so presumably getting a bit of dust in yur eye and rubbing it might do the same. Possible you didn't notice it first until your eyes bacame a little dry or aas a result of the infection.

All the best for a speedy recovery.

Agree entirely about staff making you think you're wasting their time and/or being silly and paranoid.
At least the doctor you saw was OK.
I've come across supportive nurses and doctors who think I'm paranoid and wasting their time.
Mind, when one of those measure my eye pressure and it was twice what it shouldhave been, he decided in rather a hurry I'd been right to come in.
SOunds like you were right to go in, and the nurse's attitude says more about him than about your health.
Hope it all clears up soon.

I can empathise with the 'negative nurse who does not seem interested' line but for me this highlights the problems of this country ... too few nurse and doctors, who do too many hours and are not rewarded accordingly. Who suffers? The patient. The blame is not on these nurses ... it lies a little highter. Perhaps a letter to local councils (your get more response this way that from central government) would help?

Hi all,

As some of you may know , 7 days ago tomorrow i went to the eye hospital and was told i had cornial scratches and an eye infection. I am a bit concerned as my eyes do not feel any better. This is really getting me down now because i thought they would be better by now. Does anyone think it is worth me going back to the eye hospital to get them checked out again or should i give them a bit longer.

The doctor said last week that i should be able to start wearing my lenses again this weekend but i don't think i will be able to. I have alreadyhad two weeks off work and i really don't want to take another one off if i really don't have to. I am also starting to wonder if it's the antibiotic cream and drops that i have been given that may be causing the problems. My eyes feel worse now than wheni first started the treatment two weeks ago.

Any advice would, as always be greatly accepted.

I just want to be able to put my lenses in again so i can get back to my normal.

Thanks
Dolphin

Yes - go back to the hospital. Take the meds you've been given, tell them what you've jsut said about thinking they are not working and things are getting worse.
They're antibiotics, I guess? - it may bbe you have a tpe of bacteria that needs a different antibiotic because it's immune to that one.
It may be that you're allergic to some preservative or other ingredient, and the infection is clearing up but you're gettingan allergic reaction.
It may even be a viral or other (fungal????) infection, not bacteria at all, so wouldn't respond to an antibiotic.
Or soemthing else entirely.
Good luck.

Yes, emphatically yes. You are the best one to know when things are not right with your eyes; keep going back until they manage to help you find your way out of this problem.

All the best.
