I like the George Square celebrations. Even NEDS leave old people alone, telling themselves that it is nice that the old folk manage to get out at all, let alone at new year.
Some years ago I met my nephew sitting on the shoulders of a total stranger, trying to find his brother in the melee. We found his brother and counted down together into the new year. Then began the kissing, hugging and general swearing of eternal peace and good will when strangers greet each other in a moment of genuine reconcilliation.
By the morning everything was cleaned up and tidy. There are usually street shows around the Merchant City, and we enjoy these too. You pick the kind of music you like and locate yourself accordingly.
I don't think I have ever been to an indoors celebration of the new year, but I guess the Arches will be much like anwhere else.
All the best Janes, and to everybody: ALL THE BEST WHEN IT COMES
