I used to take a rest day until I decided it was daft. I got a headache as everything was strained, it made no difference to my eyes at all.
I think it's horses for courses, if you need a break, take one, if you're not uncomfortable, keep wearing them.

Hello there!
I have always tried to have one day off from wearing lenses as i thought that it was a good idea to give my eye a rest. As i wear them for 15 hours a day when working it did make sense. However as others here have said it is hard to then but them back in as your eyes just don't like it and you do need to start again!
Now i have decided that for one day a week i wear them for half the time so no more than eight hours. This is good because if i leave my lenses out i have a really bad headache and feel really tired. I just need to reduce the time for one day so i get a rest and a lie in!
I hope that he can sort his lenses out and am glad that he is getting better with them!

He has decided not to take a rest day although I have said that he should tell the hospital this as his next appointment - be be fair though they have not said take a rest day. But they have said do not ware the lenses for more than ten hours each day.
Not having a rest day does not worry me too much - however what does worry me is that even when his eyes are sore now he wont take the lenses out. David sees this as a battle that he must win - being in control is an ASD thing believe me. But if his eyes are sore is that their way of telling him that they need a break?

Carole,
I'm afraid that you are going to have to fight this one: Get David to look at the article on Good and Bad eye days, hopefully he will realise that you can have too much of a good thing.
If he does manage ten hours, then he's really lucky. The trouble is that after ten hours wear your brain has got used to reasonable vision, and therefore the vision without lenses when they're removed seems even worse.
It's a personal discipline thing, but I think it's important not to overdo it.

If the lenses are hurting and the eyes are sore then yes he should take the lenses out for a while. Overwearing lenses is something that we are very vulnerable to doing! This is what was the start of me having to take seven months off work as i developed bad ulcers and infections through having to work too many night shifts in a row. Seven twelve hour nights with little sleep caused me so many problems, now i do three and have a night off before doing three more.
He needs to be aware of the real risk of damage to his eyes as little oxygen can get to the cornea through lenses and while he is wearing them when they are sore they are rubbing off healthy cells.
Hope he takes good care, Sweet X x X

I have had a good chat with David and read him some of your replies. By Tea time his eyes were sore. He went up to his room and came back down wearing his glasses
He's still not happy about it because he feels as if by taking them out he is being defeated
but I think he understands that it's silly not to take them out when his eyes are hurting.
thanks
Carole

thanks
