Hi,
I am from Australia and have dropped in on this forum once or twice. I have received some extremely handy information from this site which in turn has prompted me to find a solution for the irritation of wearing RGP lenses. I know my condition is nowhere near as bad as some people on this forum, but maybe some of you can get something from this.
I am 28 and have had KC for 8 or 9 years. (current prescription for glasses is (R)-800/-300 x 180 (L) -600/-250 x 5). However, I was told in 1997, despite being able to read the eye chart through a variety of lenses, that I could not wear glasses. Reason being that I needed hard lenses to correct the shape of my eye. Not even a ridiculously thick pair to wear in the privacy of home to read or watch the TV!
So for eight years I wore these annoying lenses, often wearing just one lens to half the irritation. I am sure it’s the reason why I was never great at sport – I couldn’t see the ball properly!
It’s just in the past few weeks on this forum where I read about people wearing piggyback lenses that my life has changed! My optometrist eight years ago mentioned the term “piggybackâ€Â
My solution to RGP annoyance

You have just highlighted the importance of a knowledgable Optometrist on KC; and how important it is not to only rely on information from one source!
Thats the nature of KC....there is soo much misinformation out there! that we as patients need to also explore treatment and management options; and present them to our specialists!
Good to hear the change; for the better!!

KC is about facing the challenges it creates rather than accepting the problems it generates -

Thanks for your reply and you've got it in one.....it is VERY important to find an optometrist who specialises in KC. I felt so much better getting advice from them because they new exactly what a KC sufferer goes through and are aware of the various treatments available.
And you make another excellent point....YOU have to take some responsibility in finding answers because unfortunately there isn’t enough info out there, even amongst the "professionals"!
Cheers
