Can anyone who has had intacs give me any info on this procedure and how it went,

Hi Paul,
Im not sure anyone on this sight has had intacts as when I have posted in the past I have had helpful responses pointing in the direction of websites, but they generally dont have very much info on them, but no one has replied with thier experience. Im now waiting for an appointment for intacts in my left ungrafted eye, have decided to have it under a local and give the general a miss so that I can be in and out in the same day.
I will let you know exactly how it goes and hopefully be of some help, not sure when it will come through yet, but wont be far away I think as they are hoping to do it before removing my graft stitches..had it in dec last year as if things go wrong with that then my vision in th eleft eye is too bad to help out much.

As Sophie mentioned, there is limited posts on this subject primarily because its not pushed that much in the UK
However, I was keen to look at this for my left ungrafted eye and have since spoken to my consultant...basically
1) Its generally done under local anesthetic - numbing eye drops, laser channels are created, Intacs are inserted, soft contact lens is placed over the eye as part of healing, wait to heal.....the procedure take no more than 15 mintues and you are generally in and out within an hour max.
2) Its used for mild/medium cases. If you have a Keratomatry reading of 55 or over than thats is concerned too steep and many will not perform intacs. I have a reading of 58 I beleive so I disqualified myself out.
The prcocedure is reversable thus its probably one of the more forgiving invasive procedures. Generally it takes about 4-6 weeks for the cornea to stabilise and then you can try a lens over it and see whether you can have a fit.
Do bear in mind though the following, THE PRIMARY REASON FOR INTACS IS TO CHANGE THE SHAPE OF THE CORNEA; THUS ALLOWING A BETTER LENS FIT. Also bear in mind that if the KC progresses than there MAY be issues with the Intacs and some have experienced protruding intacs. I dont want to scare youl but this is all info from people who have had it done...so I speak with dilligence. If you are confident in the consultants ability and you shall be monitoring the KC than happy days!...but if you dont have regular appts to check progression than either ensure you do this, and if you cant.....reconsider Intacs
