Hi Darren,

I worked for a long time in Manchester as an optometrist so maybe can help BUT I am not sure you are giving us the complete picture here. As far as I knew MREH DID cover contact lens fitting under the NHS but perhaps this has changed recently with the NHS reorganisation. I am wondering if it is mild, you do not need particularly specialised lenses which is why it comes under private fittings.

I assume you are registered with a consultant at MREH? You could phone MREH and ask to speak to the consultants secretary. Checkwith her what your exact situation is - that is confirm you cannot get contact lenses from MREH and if not - can you get a hospital voucher towards them. Ask for clarification in writing to make sure!

What part of Manchester to you live in?

Lynn
