Dry Eye Article in Newsletter

Postby brian-ire » Wed 16 Sep 2020 6:35 pm

I just received my newsletter and would like to thank all those involved with putting it together, especially in the absence of any physical get togethers.

The article on dry eye and KC couldn't have been more timely for me to read. Right now I'm going through a real bad patch when it comes to tolerance of my sclerals and I think DED is the root of the issue.

I've had great experiences with different optometrists and corneal specialists over the years but I find this isn't something that's explored too much when it comes to increasing my tolerance levels. At my latest appointment at Moorfields I had to bring up my blepharitis at the end of my session to get some feedback on the state of my eyelids.

Does any one know if the author of the article, Sara Maio, can be seen privately? I'd love to get a second opinion on my eyelids, tear film and extensive hygiene routine that I'm undertaking right now.

Do you know if there is any connection of dry eye and KC in a different climate? For example I am planning to visit my friend's property in Spain in October and I know that it is still hot there at this time of year, especially the Andalusia part of it. I am just worried that it will make it worth

I've never had issues and I've visited and lived in warmer and more humid climates over the years but others may have a different experience.

Hi Brian
As well as her NHS work, Sara works one day a week at Ken's Hertford Optometry practice so you could see her there. I've pm'ed you the contact details.

Eventually I had to cancel my trip due to the new virus outbreak in Spain, as I understood they've closed Madrid again for quarantine
