Scleral wearers - Which saline do you use? - POLL

Scleral lens wearers fill their lens with saline before insertion. Some can use saline with a preservative others need to use a preservative-free product.

Perhaps there is a story to which product you use and maybe it has changed since you have been wearing sclerals?

Amidose since I first started wearing sclerals. It's what I was first given and have never tried anything else.

Few different ones the UV treated one first (kinda handy as small and has a cap you can put back on), Steripod which is ok but once the tops off is a pain to transport, Ocupure (green bottle?) is very ok but also gonna try the Tesco one since... it's in Tesco.

How'd you find the suckers? Ever had sucker anxiety when pain kicks in when your away from home and need to get a lens out?

When I go overseas on holidays I have to bring 3/4 suckers carrying one in my pocket, one or two in my luggage that goes onto the plane and one that goes into my luggage in the hold.

I wouldn't mind finding somewhere that stocks the ones I use online so I can buy a dozen more.

Many of us don't use suckers, there are a couple of techniques for removing sclerals from the top or the side. Ask your optometrist to show you if necessary.

I'm a mini scleral wearer these days and I'm going to assume you are talking about full size ones. It's been so long I've probably forgotten the technique to take out my large one.

Just read elsewhere that some do take their mini sclerals out without a plunger. Interesting, might have to give it a go.

For what it's worth, I've worn mini-scleras for several years and never used a plunger; they almost always come out easily by pushing the eyelids together in the same way micro rgps used to be removed, be interested to know how many others do this. John

I have RGP 21mm sclerals and have been using Boots sterile saline which they assure me is preservative free, I tried Savers (a lot cheaper) but it was awful, the amount of sodium chloride was less than in the Boots brand, and that may have been the issue, whatever it was it gave me a scare!! I have just bought some Coopervision preservative free from Vision Express, same price as Boots own make, and am wondering if anyone has any experience of using it with sclerals, the bottle just mentions soft lenses and rinsing things..I don't want a repeat of the Savers problem.

So how was the Coopervision saline?
